Consult at Johns Hopkins w/ IBD Specialist

Post by mbozard »

Since I have had D for over 20 years and all my dietary changes have not resulted in any real remission, my PCP arranged for a consult with an expert in IBD/Microscopic Colitis. My gastro doc is on board since he's a one trick budesonide pony.

I'm currently experimenting with Boswellia serrata extract (BSE) oral 400 mg three times daily. I just started it a week ago and I have noticed less watery D. I am planning to stick with this for 6 weeks to give it a good try. After I had the bout with Yersinia and the round of Cipro I flared terribly so I am trying to get my gut healed and my microbiome healthier by taking Probiophage Probiotic x 1 daily,VSL #3 Probiotic x 1 packet daily, Glutagenics w/ L-Glutamine Licorice Root & Aloe x 1 tsp daily and Vital-Zymes Comprehensive Enzyme Supplement x 6 daily.

I actually feel good now and my D is down from 17 x daily to ~7. Way more manageable.

So, I'm wondering if you guys have any advice on what I should be sure to cover or inquire about at the consult.

Thanks.

It seems to be helping although it's not an overnight cure. For me, the D, is down from 15-17 x day to 5 - 7. However, I'm also taking 1.25 LDN and Florastor Probiotic. So, in combination, things are improving.

Hi Laura,

Welcome to our Internet family. FYI, we have a member who no longer posts, but who experimented extensively about 6 years ago with Boswellia serrata extract as a possible treatment for MC. You might also be interested in his experience. He described his efforts in a series of posts that can be found at the following links:

Started Entocort Today

Note that he only took 900 mg per day. It's possible that with a high enough dose, it might be effective.

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
