Bladder issues. Again
This one may be partly my fault for taking antibiotics, unnecessarily. Long story short. For what turns out to be a deviated septum or a polyp in my sinus cavity. (Possibly long standing) my gp gave me Augmentin. Useless of course but it triggered a horrible irritation in my bladder which nothing on two urine tests. Finally the weekend clinic doc says that the antibiotic had "done something" to my bladder. I had to sop taking it. This doc had never heard Of MC as such and gave me probiotics. It's had to believe that having to go to the bathroom every 15 mins is not connected to any infection or blood glucose issues. Another flare has also started but is not so bad. Could this be the dreaded interstitial cystitis that some of you have had? I don't want to go to another clinic. Such medical ignorance is exhausting too. Involving absurd lectures. I was tempted to leave it out of a history.
Yes, to me your symptoms sound very suspiciously similar to what I have experienced in the past when I was reacting. Here's my strictly unprofessional opinion:
The bladder has a mucosal lining that's similar to the mucosal lining of the digestive tract. Interstitial cystitis symptoms are caused by the same type of inflammation that is used as a diagnostic marker for LC, namely lymphocytic infiltration into the mucosal lining of the bladder. Therefore, since we know that many antibiotics can cause a surge of inflammation in the mucosal lining of the intestines (causing an MC flare), it doesn't take much of a stretch of the imagination to realize that the same thing might happen in the bladder.
I doubt that you would find any doctor who would admit that my theory has any merit, however, because I am unaware of any medical research that investigates the possibility that an antibiotic might cause interstitial cystitis symptoms. To the contrary, antibiotics are prescribed to treat interstitial cystitis symptoms, so most doctors would probably scoff at my suggestion that an antibiotic caused your symptoms.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Green, My symptoms started in my bladder. I was stressed out over an upcoming trip and the day before we left I had a lot of pressure on my bladder. When we were on the road the next day I felt like I had a UTI. When we arrived at our destination I bought the over the counter pills to stop the pain (can't think of the name now.) That helped until I arrived home a few days later. I went to the doctor and he said that nothing showed up in my urine. After a few days I felt OK again but now I notice if I eat something that I shouldn't I feel the pressure which I'm sure is from inflammation. It's a wonderful life trying to figure things out, isn't it?

Hi Greengoddess,
I used to have a constant urge to pee, like a pressure on my bladder, I felt like I had to run to the toilet all the time, but there were no bacteria in the urine tests. If I had to cough, I would wet my pants.
During my healing process however, the bladder problems vanished.
I read somewhere that magnesium is an important supplement when the bladder feels overactive and "irritated", and after Tex' posts on magnesium and breathing problems, I increased my intake to 1.250 mg/day and now I rarely have to get up during the night.
