Has anyone had to take Meclizine for vertigo symptoms? I was diagnosed with that this morning and I know it is from the Dramamine family. When looking online it says let your doctor know if you have any gastro problems. I saw my regular Internist and it is in the file that I have MC so just wanted to see if this was maybe a side warning and if anyone else has take it.
Thanks,
Jan

Hi Jan,
I've never taken Meclizine, but it's basically an antihistamine. Many of us take antihistamines to help control our MC symptoms. So if it should have any effect on your MC, the odds are very good that it will be a beneficial effect, rather than an adverse effect. It's very unlikely that it would make your MC symptoms worse, but of course with this disease nothing surprises me any more, so it's not impossible that it could cause problems. IMO the risk of an adverse reaction to an antihistamine is very low. In general, antihistamines are one of the safest categories of medications available.
Good luck with the treatment, and please keep us posted on how well it works.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thank you Tex! It ended up being a nasty virus (congestion etc) and yes the Meclizine helped. Once the virus reared its ugly head the vertigo went away. I had never heard of this antihistamine so was just a little concerned. This virus did however make my twitching in my legs worse and I had about 4 days of very soft stools. As we know when we get sick with anything the MC more than likely will act up along with anything else we seem to have issues with. Can be so frustrating but I try to be thankful as I believe things could be worse.
I just love being able to come to this site and get some other ideas and help.
Thank you again!
