Mars: Day #2 of S.Beach

Post by artteacher »

Dear Mars,

Thirteen pounds is just plain inspirational, so I started yesterday. Got the book and everything. I'm surprized that it's just common sense and the way we raised the kids, actually. I only let them have sugar if they had some "real food" with it. Like, a cookie only if they also had a slice of meat, or cheese or yogurt. This should be an easy diet to stay on, except for all the intolerences. So I'm being really strict. Wish me luck, and thanks for being a good role model. Love :fonkycat: Marsha

Congratulations on the new YOU Marsha! I am really excited about this diet (change of lifestyle) because I know I can stick to it!!! It IS just common sense, isn't it?

The first week was difficult for me for a few reasons. I do NOT tolerate the veggies (causes extreme gas and D) and I was not used to eating 3 square meals and 2 snacks daily. I had to remind myself to eat!

I have a few good receipes that would be easy and prepared ahead of time for breakfast if you would like them. I see you are dairy free, can you use eggbeaters? Let me know.

In a weeks time I have begun to feel GREAT! I have more energy, quicker-witted (I :crack: me up!) and just have a better love of life! I didn't set myself up for failure with this change, just dove right in and DID it! It helps that Larry is joining me so the temptation literally, isn't in the house!

I'm glad I could be an inspiration! Just consider it "Paying it forward" (good movie) for all the inspiration from you and others when I needed it! It feels great!

I have The Dining out guide, the cookbook and Good Fats, Good Carbs Guide books along with the diet book. Either ask here or PM me and I'll help all I can. It would be fun to share ideas and receipes. I take the Good Fats,Good Carbs guide with me to the store. It tells you what you can have on what phase and how much. It also lists the things you can NOT have. Priceless!

PS: It's been 10 days WITHOUT Cream Soda (my usual drink in hand!) I'm so proud of me! I drink water, coffee, V8 or diet Sprite! Now THAT's an accomplishment!

Good luck! I KNOW YOU CAN.................

Love,
Mars :bear:

Hi Margie,
I don't know if I can eat EggBeaters, but I know I can't eat eggs unless they're really watered down (like in baked items.) Just by themselves, like scrambled eggs, they make me iccky.

I do have a dessert for you.. I know this is really weird, but I like it:
diet lemon jello, with sliced black olives in it. Strangely satisfying. Olives are oddly chewey and breadlike to me, especially if they have sat in the jello for a day.

I would like to try the spinach omlettes minis in the SBeach book. Anyway, I'd love some recipe ideas . .

Talk to you later, Marsha

Hi Marsha,

Where do you find olives that are free of sulfites? (Yes, I'm THAT ignorant! Ha!)

By the way, what sweetner does the lemon jello contain? Was hoping that maybe it was Splenda rather than some of the others. Do you know if lemon jello is free of all the major allergens common to us multiples? Mine are gluten, dairy casein, egg whites, yeast, and soy.

Thank you!
Yours, Luce

Hi Luce,

Jello has sulfites, but apparently not enough to make me sick, because I don't have problems. It might be that eating protein and fats close to the same time "dilutes" the effects of the sulfites, too. I'm looking at Jello brand Sugar Free Lime right now and it has:
geletin
adipic acid
disodium phosphate
maltrodextrin (from corn)
fumeric acid
aspartame (Equal)
acesulfame potassium (?) is that splenda?
salt
Blue 1
Yellow 5
BHA

Nearly as I can tell from my reference book, a serving of diet jello should be no more than 40 micrograms of sulfites. It might be less, I just can't determine how big a "serving" is in this chart.

And olives: I avoided them at first because I thought any amount of sulfite would make me sick: but I see here in my book that Von's olives have 0 sulfites. I thought all olives had some, but I'm not finding other references to them right now, so maybe I'm wrong.

If you want me to look up anything for you, please let me know. I bought a reference book from nosulfites@aol.com that lists lots of foods; even specific brands, and medicines. Sometimes it takes me a while to find things in the book, but it can be really helpful. Matter of fact, if you want me to photocopy and mail anything, I'd love to.

See ya, Marsha
