QUESTION FOR TEX IN REGARDS TO ANTIHISTAMINES
Tex,
You have referred to some people being helped with antihistamines. Can you explain how that works and how would I find out if this would help me? Is there a test that needs to be done that would let me know?
Thanks,
Jan

Collagenous Colitis, Benign Cramp Fasciculations in lower legs, Thyroid and High Cholesterol
Hi Jan,
Unfortunately there are no practical tests for measuring histamine levels, so we just have to try one or more antihistamines to see if they help. If they are going to help, normally we will see an improvement in our symptoms within a day or two at the most. If you haven't already read them, you might find the short articles at the following links to be helpful. They explain how mast cell issues are associated with MC, and how they can be treated.
What are mast cells?
How are mast cells associated with microscopic colitis?
How do I know if mast cells are causing problems for me?
How are mast cell issues treated?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
