Hello Peeps.
I have not been diagnosed with MC yet - although everything points to this and this forum and Tex's book kept me sane (whatever the doc eventually says). 3 weeks ago the idea of constipation seemed like a dream!! I'd had chronic diarrohea for over 4 months and was feeling dreadful. After a month or so trial with the diet things started to improve and the 30 day loo visits gradually decreased....to the point that I am now constipated again!! Has anyone any tips? I dare not start to eat the foods I have identified as causing the Big D.
I have read that MC can swing between constipation and D......I haven't had a normal norman yet....any experiences /dietary advice gratefully received.
Thanks.
Jude

Help....Constipation???
Never heard of Microscopic Colitis until yesterday when consultant advised me that my chronic, 3 month long, diarrhea indicated this diagnosis (though not confirmed). Shocked, stunned and reeling a bit, although part of me is pleased to be alive.
Hi Jude,
My symptoms were in the form of alternating D and C, although I sometimes had a few days of normans following the D part of the cycle, so I'm familiar with that scenario. It's probably time to try increasing the amount of fiber in your diet in order to prevent the C. If you want to gain weight, grains will do that. If you want to lose weight, vegetables should help.
If you should happen to be eating dairy products (especially cheese), it might be a good idea to avoid those, because dairy products (especially aged cheeses) can be constipating for many people. Also certain medications (such as bile acid sequestrants, for example) can be constipating. Certain supplements (such as calcium) can also be constipating.
I hope some of this is helpful,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks Tex - really helpful. I have actually just started to eat lactose free cheese....possibly too much. I will gradually start to introduce more gentle fibres now.
