Ken, changing your diet is drastic and not something anyone wants to do. I think we go through a mourning process, our old way of eating is gone forever and it's HARD to do. Once you find the right foods that suit your specific needs, it gets easier. You will begin to get better and feel well and the diet becomes a habit. I found a modified Paleo diet works for me and I am happy to feel well despite the limits of this diet.
Finding a diet that works for you takes time and patience. Keep at it and try not to become discouraged.

Kenvh,
Did you read any of the Member Success Stories? Many new members here almost have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the diet before they will try it. No one wants to change their diet, and many people will come up with all sorts of excuses for why the diet will not work for them. But as Sheila says in her post, once we begin to feel better, and we recognize that we are feeling better because of our diet changes, it becomes much easier to accept a limited diet, and eventually we get so used to it that following it becomes automatic.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

If your digestion is inflammed, and you are deficient in key nutrients like Vit D, Magnesium, your ability to absorb nutrients from food is severely compromised... I've you are not really absorbing and synthesasing the nutrients into the cells...
The priority for now is to reduce the inflammation/immune reactions, heal the gut.
Fruit sugars can be highly inflammatory and cause other food to ferment. So in MC world they are not always the best thing to have.

Hello Kenvh!
I was dependent on fruits, really. And I was in denial for a long time. Not until I skipped my morning homemade smoothies, did the nausea disappear. The one thing some people here seem to tolerate is bananas. But, I had IgA against bananas...
After one year I introduced bananas, like one each second day. Some times it made my stomach turn, sometimes I could keep it.
Fibers and fruit sugars are not good for an inflamed gut.
I'm so sorry for you, because I know how you feel, but you can do it

Kenvh,
I know it's hard to have to give things up. I'm only about 3 weeks into my diagnosis, but I'm gf, sf, df, no sugars, no fruits, etc. I am only eating baked chicken, rice, and green beans and just in the 3rd week, I added some banana back in. You'll feel so much better. The meat you need for the protein. That's what heals your gut and it takes a lot of it.

I do feel lots better. Before I changed my diet and went gl, sf, df, and eliminated everything else, I had mornings that I could hardly get out of bed. I do eat chicken and rice every day - 3 or 4 times a day. The banana is my afternoon snack now. I am on 9 mg daily of budesonide (generic Entocort), and it has helped mask my symptoms, but when I eat or drink something I shouldn't, it doesn't mask that. I don't have the pains I once had. I still have some of the side pain (more of a discomfort than pain), but it is NOTHING like it was. My D is gone and I go once or twice in the morning only.
I am feeling so much better on the elimination diet and will stay on it until which time I can add more things in or not. There is nothing that tastes so good that is worth the pain, bloating, gassy feelings I was having.
And, like I said, I just think of food as my medicine right now. Taste is not what I'm after right now. I want to heal my gut and get my life back.[/quote]

Thats Great! Love People that are that kind of minded!!
The strange thing with Me is..
I dont feel my triggers.
I could eat gluten bread All day.. And the Next 2 Days i can gave good Days.
Doesnt make sense.
Then i could eat very clean.. And have bad Days after.
The only real trigger i felt is artificial sugars foods.
Im still NOT SO convinced that i have much triggers.
But i Will push myself and stay gf sf and df.
Are u feeling that the diet alone is making improvement?
The entocort can work wonders Too SO u cant feel the right feeling?:(
Keep going with ur plan! It's Great To See SO much dedication

The only stupid feeling i have is the incomplete evacution feeling.
Like there is poop waiting in the end. False feeling.
It's mostly the food in the gut pushing on the inflamed tissue of the gut.. This sends wrong signals.
When i push hard and pooop My system fully empty.. The false incompletion feeling is gone bcoz i have notting in the gut. Thats My Main ugly symptom.
If that would Go away.. Im in remission on the entocort.
But that isnt real remission ofcourse.

You feel that way because your gut is swollen and inflamed. After we stop the inflammation, and our gut has time to heal, that feeling goes away, and we feel normal again.
Just because gluten and certain other foods do not cause you to feel sick, does not mean that they are not inflaming your intestines.
