Has anyone tried either of these? Since almost everything the AIP doesn't allow are things I am allergic to/have MC reactions to anyway, I was thinking of ditching dairy & chocolate (cries inside) and giving it a serious go to try to get the 7 week flare I've been stuck with to cool down. I use many AIP recipes, though I still have to avoid many because they tend to include coconut or tapioca, both of which I cannot have.

I'm extremely unhappy with the anti-stevia stance of one of the main people who advertise the AIP. Does anyone here react to plain stevia as the glycerite extract?

timely that you mention this.... Yesterday I went to a book sale by the local library, and for 50 cents i got the book - The Wahls Protocol - as I thought it would be an interesting read. moreso for the functional medicine side...

One thing I have learnt and observed by many that have contributed here to the forum, a strict diet plan ie AI Paleo, fodmaps, low GI, Keto etc did not necessarily worked for everyone. each person had to tweak/modify the guidelines to suit their best fit MC eating plan ingredients, additionally there is consideration for where you live, what ingredients are readily available/affordable etc, what cooking styles etc suit work/family etc

I personally have not issues with plain stevia. again this can be individual. and I have found different brands can have slightly different taste/after taste

My diet is pretty close to Wahl's paleo plus plan. Her protocols tend to be very high in fiber so you have to be careful with that. I use pure stevia extract occasionally and have no problem with it.

I feel like stevia is fine & very useful for my personal enjoyment while managing my blood sugar. The Paleo Mom lady seems to feel that any non-nutritive sweeteners are an issue, but I feel this one is an exception because it is not a sugar alcohol, which my body has clearly decided it hates. I might cut it out for a week or two at most, if only out of curiosity to see how it affects my tastebuds, etc. I have gone without chocolate and dairy in the past, for 6 months or more at times (without dairy for 10 years), and did not have any health improvements, but I am considering giving it a whirl for 30 days. I will definitely save money! LOL

I could live quite happily off fruit, yogurt, cheese and salad, but my tummy isn't having that right now. I'm going to try some bone broth this week, am trying to get my hands on some local liver & other organ meats to incorporate in my diet & whatnot. I might try focusing on adding those in and seeing if it helps before I jump into a more restrictive diet.

I know drastic diet changes can halt many autoimmune conditions, but then later must be changed or dropped because they either stop working or are too difficult to maintain. When I went raw in 1999, I lost over 100lb effortlessly, and my asthma, eczema, migraines and some other various issues vanished within 6 months and did not return until a couple years later, when I gave into pregnancy cravings for cooked foods. I then developed the nut/seed allergies which made a raw vegan diet unbalanced for me, so that was the end of that. I tried to go back many times for years to get healthy again, but it never worked... I don't want to restrict myself too much and fall back in the cycle of extremes & striving for a magical dietary regimen which fixes everything because I think that is an illusion. In my personal experience, I have been able to manage things with dietary changes, herbs and supplements, but eventually always have to change what I am doing because things stop working or other issues/intolerances pop up.

I guess I am kind of jaded. But hey, I am still immensely healthier, even with MC, than I was when before age 20, so maybe it has all worked, after all, and I am just being too stringent with my standards. I think I'm just tired.

Still, I might try it. I've been reading about it on and off for months now. I appreciate the responses!

I have come to peace with the reality that;

there will always be issues / niggly symptoms / what works now may not work as well in 2 years time...
it is all part of 'go with the flow' listen to our bodies

we cant do everything perfectly and enjoy life.. and extremes/ ?perfectionism can drain precious energy
find the happy balance, that suits mental, emotional, work/life balance, budget, that suits you...

for me with my multitude of issues, the strict eating plan, proactive about supplements and nutritional support is for life... i just listen to my body and go with the flow of what is happening. Yes, I have a management plan, but I am open and ready to embrace to impermanence and change...

If giving up certain foods does not bring improvement, then I would investigate nutritional deficiencies/imbalances as the root cause of symptoms..
have you read the posts about magnesium deficiency? there are 20-30 medical conditions linked to magnesium deficiency.
you need good levels of magnesium to use Vit D3 effectively..
If you have multiple issues then I would suggest reading some of the posts on methylation issues, the benefits of taking active forms of B12, B9 and B6. This has helped many here...
