Is This Normal?

Post by jlbattin »

I really have been feeling pretty good, but the last couple of days or so, I really haven't felt very good, and I can't put my finger on it. I've done nothing different. I wake up and my stomach hurts a little bit and I've felt kind of nauseous. I haven't, however, had diarrhea. I just generally feel lousy. By afternoon, most days, I am feeling better, but still not great. I'm only a month into my elimination diet and budesonide. I know I have a long road ahead of me. I also know that stress can do weird things, and I've tried to get a handle on that. I am due to start school next week, and that has made me a little anxious as even though I have the diarrhea under control. I still have a fear of leaving the house. I'm trying hard to get past that and know that going back to school will be the very best thing in the world for me to help take my mind off of this stupid disease. I know that I'm a long ways from being 100 percent, but I guess I'm just wondering from some of you long timers, if this is a normal reaction? Do you have days when you just don't feel very good? Is this something I should expect from time to time?

Thanks for all your help and support. Some days I feel so alone with this disease, and it's nice to sign in here and know that I'm really not alone.

Hi, Jari. I'm on this journey for not quite two years so I'm not a long timer but I would agree with your assessment. Some days I feel really good and some days I feel like I've been drained of my blood supply. I have learned to take each day as it comes and try to get enough sleep and keep my stress level down. You're not alone and this forum is a great place to come to be reminded of that. Some days I'd like to think "why me" but I won't go there. Good luck with returning to school.

I am coming up to near 6 years...
there will be days that you feel a bit blah, tired, few niggles etc...

sometimes it can be weather changes, or that I ate and took my supplements at a different time.
if i feel blah and bit tired, i go back to my safe staples, rest a bit more, if the poop is a bit narrow (indicator of inflammation) i take some extra Vit D3.

only this last weekend, after a stressful week of work, on Saturday I headed to the beach, enjoyed some sunshine, went to a photography exhibition, sat in the winter sun, watched some buskers. had a good day.
then Sunday, there was a big weather change and I woke up and felt really blah, nausea, headache, fatigue, aches. I had bland meals, had a lunchtime 3 hour rest, I forwent plans of shopping, cooking, and afternoon catch up with a friend. Just took it easy for the day...

I know it is easier said than done, try not to stress, if you are eating the right things, and getting good rest, you are doing the best you can.
do what you can handle, take it a day at a time,

I have a set up a system of extra supplies (bathroom, laundry, and food) so if I am not feeling well there is no pressure to go and do the shopping...
part of my MC management system is that at least once a month it is good to have a easy day, extra rest, no housework or cooking...

hope this helps...

Jari,

To add to what the others posted, as our gut continues to heal, the bad days become less bad, and they show up less often.

Thanks to all of you for your support and responses. I think I might have found the source of my distress the last couple of days: green potatoes. Who knew? I had left the bag of potatoes on my counter for a few days and I have an overhead skylight in my kitchen. When I went to peel them to fry hashbrowns, I noticed they were green. My husband said, "Yes, that happens when they get too much sunlight. Just cut it off and they'll be fine." So, I did, and apparently, I ate a little bit of green that I shouldn't have. When I looked it up on the web, I saw where green potatoes can cause digestive problems, nausea, etc., in some folks because of too much solanine caused from cholorophyll. I'm guessing that it wouldn't have bothered the healthy normal person at all, but because of the sensitive stomachs we all have and especially when healing, it was too much for me. I threw them out and learned that I can't keep them on my kitchen counter but rather will have to keep them down in the basement or garage where it is dark. Anyway, I am feeling much better today and that was the only difference I can place my finger on!

Thanks for your help and support! You guys are the best!

My husband and I don't eat too many potatoes. I keep mine in the refrigerator to keep them from spoiling or sprouting.

Potatoes are one of my safe foods. I have so few things I can eat right now while eating, that I'm not about to give them up! I only eat them once a day. I'm just not going to eat any more green ones!

I am in the same boat. I am coming up to 1 year being diagnosed and now that I have reached remission, I have a lot of good days, but some days where I'm just "off" and don't know why. I think it is just how it goes. As others have mentioned, just taking it day by day helps and working on stress management/anxiety.

I'm experiencing some off days myself, the last few days. I have a good idea why. I've been very well the gut lately, so because of that decided to increase the amount of fiber rich food in my diet.

The good news for me is that the gut is still doing very well after eating more fruit. The down side is I have little energy, and overall feel out of it.

Jari,
Hi! I just want to confirm that I have bad days, and for no known reason.

Sometimes it's just stress. My stepson was home last week and he has lots of issues, & my stools became narrow, and I was going 6x a day, with lots of bloating/gas!

I hadn't had a reaction like that for many many months & was surprised. I did eat a few peacans, too...but it had to have been the stress.

Good days/ bad days.....but as Tex said....the good days will start to outweigh the bad.....hang in there! 😀

Yep, stress comes in all kinds of ways...in fact too many to list. All it takes for me to get derailed is to do a grocery list at the last minute, or run an errand that I didn't plan to do...just Normal stuff like that does mean things to me. I find it to be dumb that is all it takes to bring on a case of bathroom trips. Managing this part of MC is difficult just as it is figuring out the hormone aspect too
