MC Can Trigger Migraines. Can Migraines Trigger MC?
Hi All,
This has me puzzled. After Tuesday evening, when a migraine began to develop, I became bloated, and developed C. My neck was sore and stiff, and I was bloated all day yesterday, (couldn't button my Levis without causing significant pain), and I still have C, today. I've been eating very little, since this blood pressure thing began on Monday, and I certainly haven't eaten anything that might have contained gluten. And yet, yesterday, I felt exactly the way that I used to feel when I was beginning a reaction cycle, before I adopted the diet, and my gut healed. Back then, my cycles usually started with C, bloating, a headache and stiff neck, which would turn into a migraine, (if I didn't take something to stop it), and they ended with D, and deflation. The stiff neck usually lasted through the whole thing. Then I would have a week or so of "normalcy" before the cycle started over. The bloating is down today, (at least enough that I can button my jeans), the migraine and stiff neck, are almost gone, so it will be interesting to see if this turns into D.
Maybe it's the stress, (I don't know about how anyone else feels, but I get more than a little nervous, when my BP goes that high, and I have no way of knowing how much higher it might go before it levels off, or starts back down). But, of course, stress is not supposed to trigger an MC reaction, either, but maybe that opinion is wrong. Or, maybe this all just a coincidence, due to the drug interacion.
Regardless of how this turns out, it sure felt like the start of a reaction, yesterday, so I'm curious to see how it will play out.

at the moment after years of issues with joints, headaches and migraines.
Since i have been strictly following gluten free diet and digestion is happier i havent had any headaches or migraines.
my naturopath friend says that headaches/migraines are a sign that your body is not happy and/or it is your bodys way to slow you down. Headaches/migraines and stress are very much related whether it be your body is under stress, or your mind is under stress (or both)

Did you stop taking that PD med completely, or decide to wean off it? Could be your body reacting in the way it prefers to a change in the 'balance'.
I sometimes feel I can take a certain amount of an irritant and it is fine, but if I keep taking it faster than my body can clear out all the effects of it, then I will react. Anything in your meds?

I stopped taking it "cold turkey", one day after my blood pressure shot up into the stage 2 hypertension range. According to the literature, there should be no withdrawal symptoms. I believe that the hypertension event was triggered by taking an antihistamine, (for hay fever), each day, for the two days preceding the day on which I discovered the blood pressure problem. You are correct - the dose matters, and by the second day, the blood level of the antihistamine was apparently high enough to trigger a reaction with the Azilect. Azilect is a very unique drug. I discovered that drug interactions with Azilect are often delayed by at least 12 hours, and they don't peak until at least the second day of the reaction. That's exactly what happened to me - I discovered the blood pressure problem on Monday, and the pressures were highest on Tuesday, (225/121).
I have a hunch that the migraine was triggered because of the blood pressure fluctuations. IOW, here's the way that migraines are triggered:
1. The brain experiences a significant increase in blood pressure, which produces no noticeable symptoms, (the reason for the pressure rise is generally unknown).
2. A subsequent rapid drop in cranial blood pressure, triggers a migraine, (again, the reason for the rapid drop is unknown). If an aura precedes the headache, then this is the point at which the aura begins, and the headache immediately follows the aura, (after the aura plays out). If there's no aura, then the headache presumably begins as soon as the pressure begins it's rapid descent.
In my case, the migraine was probably atypical, in that the pressure rise, (and subsequent fall), was not due to a typical migraine event, but rather was due to my drug reaction causing high pressure, followed by pressure fluctuations.

Tex,
This has got to be why I have had a digging headache issue for the last 6 days...Up and Down pressure systems in the weather where I live. Being so new to gluten free only 90 days into it, this clearing in my system is still an issue for the body. Apparently my body can't handle the gluten leaving and the weather changes all at once.
I know this thread is older from 2010 but it sure is relative to how I am feeling about my particular head ache situation that I can't seem to get to resolve very quickly.
Atmospheric pressure from a passing thunder storm that leads to a drop since we had a couple good days in between weather systems and back to thunder again this morning and now it is sunny....I don't want to think today. Just had to take an Imitrex again...UGH.

Hi Erica,
I'm sorry that you're having such persistent headache problems. You may be right about the cause.
I was definitely having an adverse drug reaction that was triggered by taking an antihistamine while using Rasagaline. My doctors failed to warn me about that serious interaction, unfortunately.
