Need food suggestions, please. . .

Post by adoptbc4 »

I'm only eating certain foods and also taking the Colestid now. Flare-ups are starting to decrease, which is great, but I need suggestions for my very limited diet!

Because of my many gastric issues and near constant nausea, I am mainly eating:

GF Rice Chex
Rice milk
GF bread
Rice
Sweet potato
Steak, chicken, or fish--don't like turkey
Bananas
Spaghetti Squash

No dairy, gluten, soy, or wheat--any ideas? I miss fruit so much and also miss just being able to grab a snack at work when I need it (work 10 hr days).

Thank you,

Robin

Robin,
My suggestions

-have meat and veges for breaky -good serve of protein
- I use a rice protein powder mixed with coconut water and rice milk as snack, meal on the go for work.
-weekends I do cook up of soup/stew using home made bone broth as base. Freeze these in meal portions for lunch at work. Have been eating lamb stew for lunch for over 5 years.
- bake banana muffin type thing, freeze individually, afternoon snack

Hope this helps...

Gabes,

Is your recipe for your banana muffin type thing in the recipe section? Would love to know how you bake them. Thanks.
Jari

Good suggestions, but I have to pass on the meat and veggies in the a.m.

Other gastric issues mean I am very nauseated from approx 9 p.m. until about 10 a.m., unfortunately.
I have a very physical job, so really need to eat some protein in the morning--will try a shake and muffin or
Maybe shake and an egg. . .

Thanks again :)

Robin, the nausea is quite likely an indicator of deficiency,
Are you taking Vit D3 and using magnesium spray?? Magnesium can help reduce the nausea.
If there are safe potato chips you can buy, a small serve will help settle the nausea. (The salt helps)
Or small serve of potato mash.
Another snack idea is savoury muffins type thing based on sweet potato, bit of mince meat.

Jari, I am allergic to banana's (have been my whole life) I just made suggestions based on the list robin provided. If you search the dee's kitchen area, there are quite a few recipes for muffins.
Also the paleo recipe web sites.

Just use enough flour to bind together safe ingredients so it is kinda a muffin.... Does that make sense. Cooking them in muffin tray make it easy to freeze in portion size.

HI Robin,

Indeed Vit D3 and Elemental Magnesium are very important on this journey. Gabes has a great "Sticky" at the top of all the posts on Magnesium. I am 90 days into this diet and VitD3 and Mag supplementation and I am doing better....now I'm onto working out the hormone side of it all as I have gotten to the point where I only have WD when my hormones rotate around to a Ghost Cycle

I digress...some other Safe Food ideas could be Coconut milk, Home made bone broth with sea salt (I have been able to add carrot and celery and GF noodles to mine to turn it into a great chicken noodle soup better than any store bought - which you don't want to buy it may not contain safe enough ingredients). The broth would be a good hot drink for the tummy first thing in the morning too.

Once you get the nausea under control you will be able to figure out more Safe foods for you. A safe nausea med is Benedryl for the short term. I'd start soaking my feet or body in Epsom Salts (that is magnesium) as often as possible. With Gabes help I found a very reasonable Mag Oil at Vitacost called Life-Flo around $7 for 8 oz. I'd start there...let us know how you are doing :-)

Cheers
Erica

the nausea on top of everything else must be a challenge Robin, sorry to hear that. Can you eat buckwheat? What about gluten free flour? I virtually lived on pancakes made with almond milk, gluten free flour added to chopped, fried bacon initially. Then I discovered I can eat buckwheat flour too. I was so excited to introduce a new texture to my diet when I found a recipe for a foccaccio - so incredibly simple to make. Mix together: 2 1/2 cups buckwheat flour, 1/2 cup olive oil, 3 tablespoons of cider vinegar + salt and pepper oh and 2 cups water. Cook for 30 mins on 200. I know we are all so different but our lists of no go foods are remarkably similar so maybe? Good luck. Jude
Never heard of Microscopic Colitis until yesterday when consultant advised me that my chronic, 3 month long, diarrhea indicated this diagnosis (though not confirmed). Shocked, stunned and reeling a bit, although part of me is pleased to be alive.
