Hi All,
Does anyone use the Applegate Farms products? And if so, which ones do you like? I tried the beef hot dogs tonight which should be okay since they are casein and gluten free. I like that they are certified humane and organic. I see they make a jerky-like stick called "the Joy Stick" but I've never seen it at the store. Has anyone tried it? It would be great for traveling and emergency snack.
thanks,
m

Hi M,
I've just used the "All Natural Country Sausage" and it's ok. Notice that they've also got an "Apple" something-or-other sausage packaged similarly. Is this the one made from chicken?? Anyway, I think they have a sausage from chicken as well. Would like to know if anyone has tried that one.
Most of the time, we just revert back to our old standbye, 365 brand's link sausages, and lately, we've used the sage flavored ones here, but my sister likes that, and also, the classic flavored. It would be nice to have a good patty option that is safe and free of additives, and a good chicken one would be preferred over pork for health reasons if anyone has discovered a good one without soy, in particular. Whole Foods' behind the counter stuff often has soy oil in it, unfortunately, but I'll just bet that they would grind up some chicken into sausage and sell it to you plain. That way, you could season it to your liking. Hmm, think I'll do that myself sometime! May have to call ahead to give em time to get it ready. Wonder how much they'd charge to do that?
Yours, Luce

Hi Girls,
I've tried the chicken/apple sausage - it's a long time ago but I think it was OK. As far as I remember it was delicious and trigger free; however, I think it is terribly expensive.
The jerky sounds interesting. I have been making my own beef jerky in a food dehydrator that I purchased at Walmart. It is much less expensive that store bought jerky. The reason I started doing it was because I couldn't find one w/o my triggers and like you said it is a great travel food.
Recently I found a beef jerky at the health food store that IS free of my triggers. It is Double D brand beef jerky and I think it was Pecan smoked?! The other Double D brand jerky flavors were loaded with my triggers. I paid $6.99 for a fair size bag. Boy, it was tasty compared to my home made, and much more tender!!
Good luck with the sausage and jerky!
Love,
Karen

Hi,
I've noticed for a while now, that Whole Foods now has a familiar brand of Wild Alaska salmon in the jerky form in a very similar package to this same company's regular salmon that hangs on racks over where the other seafood is sold. Package is a sort of off-red and blue. Does that sound familiar?
Has anyone tried it? I'm wondering how I would like this as jerky? I would think that salmon jerky wouldn't be as tough as beef jerky, would it? Welp, what's your verdict on the salmon jerky? Does it taste just like the undried version? I would hate to fork over the money for that stuff and then discover that I hated the flavor.
On the other hand, for travel, or times when refrigeration would be a hassle, it would be perfect.
