More bad news
Well yesterday I got the call my son's labs are back it appears he does have autoimmune hepatitis in addition to the PSC. His liver biopsy next week will confirm it. They also suspect ulcerative colitis but the colonoscopy won't be until the 11th. He has no pain or cramping so I wonder what's really going on. I will find out next week if they plan to do an endoscopy too. They might as well as long as he is having the colonoscopy. His blood test for celiac came back negative but really.... Who cares. His enterolab test showed sensitivity to gluten and dairy. He did make the comment yesterday that he may have to start eating like me. At least he is thinking about it. I am thankful he has no bad pains but am really heartbroken over the whole situation. It will be interesting to see what the gameplan is. More pills, I suspect, which scares the pants off me.

Deb,
As I mentioned before, there's a very good chance that a GF diet will effectively treat the AIH. The good news is that surely this will prompt him to change his diet, and that will be the best thing that he could possibly do for improving his long-term health.
I'm a bit gun-shy about endoscopes these days, after the news that many/most of those scopes may be/are contaminated, and the hospitals are generally unsuccessful at sterilizing them. This is an industry-wide problem, because hospitals and clinics have always assumed that as long as they used approved practices, the scopes would be clean. Not so. Research shows that the approved practices are generally ineffective, and as a result, a high percentage of endoscopes are contaminated.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks for the info about the scopes- I forgot about that in the news. Maybe we should forgo that. I believe she said that was for celiac sampling. I'm not concerned about an official dx since he needs to be GF. Baby steps and hopeful he will get there.

I'm so sorry for what you and your son are going through. I hope you find some answers. It's great that he's willing to go GF. Thinking good thoughts for you both.
