Fundal gland polyps in stomach......

Post by TaiaK »

Hello all. So I have a GI follow up in a few weeks and I was just thinking back on the last 4 months since my LC diagnosis. Right after the colonoscopy and endoscopy, the GI came in and mentioned I had fundal gland polyps in my stomach. She showed me pictures and could tell they were benign (she did biopsy and sent to pathology to be safe) but was surprised as she said she usually sees them in people taking PPI's (which I never have).

She also tested me for H. Pylori and that was negative. So now I'm wondering if there is any connection with these polyps and a food intolerance? or MC? Will they go away on their own? Earlier, before my diagnosis, I did have a very acidic feeling stomach but I havent had that since diet changes and I'm in the middle of my Budesonide taper.

It just popped into my mind this morning as I'd forgotten about it-and wondering if any connection with all this or if anyone else had this show up? (if you happened to have the upper scope-she wanted to biopsy for celiac).

Hi Taia,

Stomach polyps form in response to inflammation or other physical damage to the lining of the stomach. Most GI specialists believe that MC only affects the colon (because the "colitis" in the name means inflammation of the colon). But the reality is that MC can affect any part of the GI tract, and for many of us, not only is the colon inflamed, but so is the small intestine and the stomach.

That doesn't guarantee that the polyps are associated with your MC, but since no other cause was apparent, there's a good chance that might be the case. I was under the impression that once formed, polyps tend to continue to exist, but I could be wrong. I've never looked to see if there are any research data available on this topic.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I had a lot of polyps seen in my last colonoscopy, and they were all removed.

I have never taken PPI in my whole life, however, my ex boyfriend chewed them like candy, and he had 28 polyps (but not MC).

I had gastric polyps show up in my last endoscopy. My GI thought related to H Pylori and that they would go away over time. These were flat, slightly raised areas, not protruding polyps if that makes sense.

I brought it up in a follow-up appointment and she said they'll look on future scopes, but chances are they will be gone.

Really don't know much about them. Biopsy was alright so I sort of pushed it out of my mind.
