Hello, newbie here

Post by Jaime »

I'm so glad I found other Potty People. A place where people understand that when we venture out into the world into a new environment we learn where all the nearest bathrooms are before we even look for the fire exits.

I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Jaime. I am a 60 yr old Mother, Grandmother and health care worker in a hospital. I have been suffering with this mysterious diarrhea for almost 10 yrs now. Because of my personality type, horrible personal medical experiences and the frightening things I see daily in hospital I have been trying to manage this on my own all these years. My story is similar to many here. Mine came on suddenly about a decade ago. One day I was "normal" and the next day I wasn't. I just had my first appointment with a GI Doctor and he said he suspected microscopic colitis. [no surprise] I had lots of things I wanted to discuss with more experienced people on this forum.

I have suffered with this condition many years in isolation and recently decided I needed to take control of the situation. It was only recently I started to realize how much diet affected my condition. I also made the choice years ago that main steam medication like steroids were not for me. In recent months I have been doing nonstop research and it appears most pharmaceuticals just mask symptoms for a period of time and there is a price to pay for their use. I am trying a wholistic herbal approach and after years of many failures I have finally found some natural things that appear to be working for me. It appears that we are all individual in our makeup and reactions and hopefully my experiences will help someone and I can learn from others here.

Welcome Jaime,
So glad that you have found things that are working for you. I too suffered, went the medication route, and it wasn't until I changed my diet that I was able to reduce my symptoms and begin healing. I have been in "remission" so to speak for over a year and am doing it with diet and less stress in my life. Continued good luck to you!

Hi Jaime,

Welcome to our Internet family. As you have probably already read somewhere here, we consider ourselves a family because no one truly understands this disease (and how debilitating it can be) unless they actually have it.

You appear to be reaching the right conclusions with your research, and I fully agree with you that even though we sometimes may have to use medications, the less we have to rely on them, the better off we are, because all medications have side effect risks. And you are also quite correct that each of us has to work out our own personal treatment program that fits our individual health needs and our lifestyle.

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi, Jaime. Welcome to our group. I learned so much here about dealing with LC and I would suggest that you purchase Tex's book which is on the upper right-hand corner of this page. There is a wealth of information in it. You are correct in that our bodies are all different and what works for one won't necessarily work for another. Good luck on your journey.

Welcome Jaime
I had D for 8 years before I found this great place. I have LC Dx 2012. I remember turning 40 and in that month my D started, I kinda blame it on entering peri menopause and stress raising teenagers at the time. I'm in my 4th month of diet change, I just weaned off supplemental hormones as they make it harder to heal the gut an I'm hoping all the diet changes, magnesium an Vitd3 I've increased will help keep the flushes an debilitating migraines at bay.

I hope you will enjoy this family as I do. Would love to hear your diet story.
Cheers
Erica

Thank you guys for the warm welcome :) Its nice to get to know you and see that others have gone through this and there is hope. I dont have to tell anyone here about the isolation that comes with this. I will check out Texs book too.
