Elimination Diet
Those of you that have done the elimination diet, how soon after starting it do you notice a slowdown with D? Also, what are some examples of what you ate for breakfast? I think I'll give it a try starting Monday.
Hi Mackey,
When I first stated May 2015, I had a pretty extensive list of foods I was trying to hang onto (lol) but it got pared down to maybe around 10 things (breakfast, lunch and dinner) I am choosing now.
My breakfast is either Rice Chex Cinnamon with Coconut milk and a couple Turkey sausages OR a gluten, dairy, soy, egg free pancake mix that I make a waffle with and use Real Maple syrup also with a couple Turkey sausages. I am sure you can use lamb, pork, chicken or any wild game too. I have rotated this breakfast for the last 3-4 months now. Sometimes I will try a little hashbrown with coconut oil and Earthbalance soy free butter for flavor along with turkey sausages.
Also after paring my foods way down to begin with I noticed my D became slow and practically predictable. Now that I have been on the same foods for this long my BM's are predictable and I even had to stop my hormone supplement to see even better results, so far that has helped even more. On a Bristol scale I am seeing more 5's and an occasional 6 but no more water D.

Hey Erica,
What brand of gluten, dairy, soy, egg free pancake mix are you using to make waffles with? I've been looking at them and can't decide. Obviously, you must like the one you use. And are you using EnerGee or whatever that egg free product is? That was recommended to me.
Mackey,
My D slowed down almost immediately when I went gluten free, soy free, dairy free, and egg free and just ate safe foods. I am also on Budesonide, so I'm sure that helped also. Right now - a little over 2 months in - I am almost regular with no D (unless I eat something I shouldn't or am trying to add foods back in that my body doesn't like or get highly stressed).

Hi Jari,
I am getting this particular brand at the moment (but I am not having to pay this price as my work is able to get it at wholesale price) but it is VERY good... http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywor ... e9h4jtqz_b
Another one I have used that is good too is King Arthur http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/ite ... ancake-mix I have found this one in the Haggens grocery store, so I'd look at my local large store before buying online and dealing with shipping costs.
I haven't been using the EnerG egg replacer for a while, I have just been avoiding things with eggs for now, nor have I been cooking anything that needed an egg. Just been laying low in that dept.
A great place we have local is this place, I can have so many of their items it is a relief. http://www.fine-lymade.com/ I think they might ship but don't know, if they do it is totally worth the money for their products because the bread is sooo good in the toaster and I am just now able to try the Cinnamon/raisin kind, I don't feel so deprived lately. Their store is relatively new so their website isn't completely done. I would email Maria for details.

Thanks Jari and Erica for sharing your diet tips but did you both do the chicken, rice or potatoes, bananas, and tea for two weeks? It seems very challenging. Erica you breakfast ideas look good - thanks. I'm thinking about just getting the testing done.
Mackey,
You heal best when you stick with bland safe foods, and I have been eating chicken/turkey, rice/potatoes, and a banana with occasional bone broth for a little over 2 months now. Every single meal. I am just now trying to start adding a few foods back in because I have a couple of months good healing under my belt, but I am sticking to my safe foods.
I am just now starting to feel a lot better, and I know this because I am seriously starting to GAG on rice! :) I am also craving a little bit more flavor, but really, up to now, it didn't bother me in the least. It was fuel and I just needed to eat to live. So, now I am on the search for a few other foods I can rotate in because I am beginning to get very tired of my old faithfuls.

Hi Mackey,
The thing about a boring diet is you try to do it as long as you can because this is what begins the healing process. It was hard to comprehend when I first learned it but now that I have making my own bone broth gluten free noodle soup with carrots an sea salt plus my breakfast stuff. Dinner has been sticky rice, alternating chicken an turkey, and a piece of gluten, dairy, soy egg free bread that I toast an use earth balance soy free spread for flavor. I drink water, coconut milk and I treat myself to a mini mtn dew I also take 6000 mg VitD3 an I spray Magnesium oil on my arms an legs every day, no internal magnesium at the moment, will heal a while longer before taking it internally. I'm doing so much better....there is light as you keep healing.
I would whole heartedly do the Enterolab testing, it's worth every penny.
Cheers
Erica

HI Martha,
The bread I'm using is Local Vegan-Gluten made http://www.fine-lymade.com/ it is a shop that opened up and it has become so busy. I hope you are able to locate a local Gluten-Vegan made bakery in your area. I think this business will be able to mail things sooner or later, but their site looks like it is still in progress. They have really found good mixtures for their recipes. I do know some people are not able to tolerate some of the Gums and such but so far as long as it doesn't have soy , gluten, dairy or egg I'm doing fine with it.

Rice
Just to say that the D didn't slow down for me until I cut RICE out of my diet....something I was eating lots of as I assumed it was okay. I had already cut out gluten, soya, dairy and fructose....and the loo visits had slowed down....but as soon as I cut out rice I turned the corner. Still haven't dared to touch it....or the other foods, but once I identified the triggers I started to improve over a 4 week period.

Never heard of Microscopic Colitis until yesterday when consultant advised me that my chronic, 3 month long, diarrhea indicated this diagnosis (though not confirmed). Shocked, stunned and reeling a bit, although part of me is pleased to be alive.
Focaccio
This is my life saver.
2 cups buckwheat flour. 1/2 cup of olive oil. 3 tbspns cider vinegar and 1 1/2 cups water. Mix all together with salt and pepper. Place in oven for 30 mins on 200.
I love it and keep some in my handbag for when I am starving. I even took it on holiday with me to eat on the plane as I knew there would be nothing I could eat.

I had bacon and eggs, fried eggs over rice, GF chex cereal with almond milk, and King Arthur GF pancake mix pancakes every once in a while ( with real maple syrup). If anyone is still on Budesonide, you should not be "testing" foods back in simply because the drug masks intolerances. Keep to the same bland diet until you are off of the drug.
