Colon Cancer – A Cow Virus?

Hi all,

The German Nobel Price Winner Harald zur Hausen, who saw the link between Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and cervical cancer, is now trying to prove a link between colon cancer and a cow virus.

If a virus can cause colon cancer, it might also cause other intestinal diseases like MC, no?

I remember back when I was hospitalized with horrific D that had lasted for 7 months, the doctors went on and on asking me if I had eaten any raw beef… Of course, after that I overcook whatever meat I eat.

I heard about his research on the radio yesterday, and found this article. India, where beef is largely avoided due to religious reasons, has the lowest rate of colorectal cancers in the world.

That's very interesting (if true). I have a hunch that it may actually be somewhat common for viruses to be transmitted by food. For example, here's a story about oysters carrying norovirus (and infecting people).

Researchers looked at the DNA of norovirus samples in oysters dating between 1983 and 2014 and identified 80% of known human norovirus strains.

The study found that oysters not only transmit the norovirus, but also serve as an incubator of sorts in between outbreaks

But this shouldn't be surprising, because Hippocrates pointed out over 2,000 years ago that, "All disease begins in the gut".
