These "spasms" of the esophagus began a few years before my DX of MC/LC. My past GI doc diagnosed it as "Female Hysterics"!!! He actually gave me a prescription for "women who get hysterical" when they eat. Now I just thought THAT was hysterical. I looked up what he was even referring to and it comes from an eating disorder dreamed up by someone in the 1800's! My primary had never heard of the medication, and was surprised to learn that it was still being made.
Now that I finally have a confirmed DX of LC, and I see here that esophageal spasms are common, I feel a LOT better! I never for a moment believed that guy, but I tried to ignore my symptom as much as humanly possible.
This is my first post, but have learned so much already!

Welcome to the board. I have to agree with you that your past GI doc was apparently a rather pathetic joker.
It sounds as though he may have also had a bit of "male-chauvinistic-pig blood flowing in his veins. 
As you have probably figured out by now, yes, this disease can affect any part of the digestive system, from one end, to the other. Unfortunately, many/most GI specialists are apparently still unaware of that.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Welcome. Your doctor is nuts and you should probably find a more competent, caring and less chauvinistic one. Good grief, what an idiot.
Have you read the previous posts about esophageal spasm? There is some good information to be found in those older posts. Surprisingly, my chiropractor has helped me greatly with these awful spasms. In fact, I can't remember when I last had one. My mother, brother and sister also suffer with these spasms so there is a hereditary component, I think. My chiropractor is an old school guy and he can "fix" most anything. If he can't, he says so and sends me elsewhere. Not many like him around anymore.
