How long does Lialda take to work?

Post by Lucy_B »

Hi, folks! I know that many of you have used Lialda without success. For those who HAVE had success with it, about how long did it take to start working for you? I'm just not sure how long of a trial run to give it. I would not say that things are exactly worse right now, but they're definitely no better. I've been taking 4.8 g for about a week. Another thing I've noticed is that my urine has turned a light orangey-brown color. Is that from the red coating on the Lialda pills? Hope so. :) Thanks in advance!

Lucy,

We all respond differently to various meds, but a typical time to see a significant response from mesalamine is probably around 2–4 weeks. And yes, the urine color change you mentioned apparently is not uncommon when taking Lialda.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks so much, Tex! Exactly what I was looking for. :) I'll probably stick with it for a full month before deciding whether to continue (and will of course keep up the dietary eliminations, etc.). Gonna try adding a bit more Imodium in the meantime, as well. And doing away with my supplements, other than the Vit D and magnesium. Here's hoping!
