I am using the Sandoz cholestyramine (regular, not lite), like Donna. Quite a few people seem to react negatively to the lite. I know I would, because one of my sensitivities according to the MRT is red dye 40, although I am fine with the yellow dyes. Also, I have never tolerated sugar substitutes.
Tex, thanks for providing the info on the inert ingredients. I can't agree more - why in the world do they put unnecessary (and often pro-inflammatory) ingredients in preps meant for GI treatments? Go figure! It drives me wild!!! You inspired me to check out the inert ingredients in colestipol - they are: cellulose acetate, phthalate, glyceryl triacetate, carnauba wax, hypermellose, magnesium stearate, povidone, and silicon dioxide. Actually, Martha, these may be less reactive than the ingredients in cholestyramine. Of course, it's a highly individual thing......and for that reason, I think it might be worthwhile to at least try other sequestrant options. Especially when the payoff can be life-changing in such a positive way.

Polly, oddly enough the iron pills seemed to create a bit more form the first couple days then I went back to WD. It makes me wonder about the colestipol too. Maybe my body behaves a bit at first and then decides to get even with me for trying. It will be interesting to see how this type works since it's a bigger dose. The Proferrin is a 10.5 mg pill that I took once a day. Now I am taking 324mg of ferrous gluconate twice a day.
Tex, I agree completely! I know the colors help to identify pills but I'd rather have no dyes at all. My iron pills are a bright green and look exactly like M&Ms. I didn't realize the cholestyramine has acacia. I never checked if it was in the pill form. I don't know if it causes issues for me but I avoid it whenever I can. I know I have pine pollen allergies and mystery garden issues that cause a rash so that's a good enough reason for me. I have the rash again and it has made for a very uncomfortable week. I think mint effects me and the sun seems to make it worse. I've been using Schreiners Herbal Solution and it seems to have calmed it faster and now it's on its way out. Funny thing is- it's a herbal remedy for pets. Hot spots and flea dermatitis. I bought it for my oldest cat, who is a runt, after we rescued my poopy cat from freezing a few years ago. The kitten has now grow into a mini bob cat (not really, but she is big and strong and very jealous for attention) and she would bite at my ity- bity kitty's legs. She deveolped a nasty sore so I tried the herbal remedy first. After reading many raving reviews about the product I decided to give it a try on my own hot spots. At it's worst, the rash throws out heat similiar to a sunburn but much worse.
Martha, I was taking the pill form and at first it made all noises much better but then created grumbles and gas. I'm not sure if something else was involved or not so I wouldn't avoid trying it. You may have better luck. I also think some of the grumbles were in part because of the length of time I was off Entocort. The longest I could stay off it has been around 23 days before serious issues return (more grumbling, nocturnal D, fecal incontinence). My use of Entocort has not created Normans or constipation at the higher dose, it just controls the serious issues for me. The higher dose causes me to fatigue worse than normal and creates painful butt cramping so I avoid it. I had been taking one pill about every fifth day to keep things at just WD and D. It could have been timing with that.
Vanessa, thank you! It's not weird and it made me laugh. I agree with you- it's so nice reading other people's experiences. We are all a strong breed.

Deb,
I am going to try the pill but at a later date. This "lite" version has really caused me problems. I'm slowly recovering right now after I experienced the worst BMs in my 7 years of gut problems. I know everyone is different but that one should be everyone's last option!
Right now I look at food, I get gas. I know it was a combination of things, that d3 wasnt helping either. Prior to my MC, I had a hard time taking supplements. I hope to find one that works for me. I think my body is just trying to find something to get upset about now that gluten is slowly leaving.
Have you ever tried apriso? Its similar to aspirin. My dr said one of his patients is on a very low dose daily, but I believe you have to get kidneys checked periodically. It takes a high dose in the beginning.
I so hope you can find some resolve! You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Martha, I haven't tried Apriso (never heard of it before) but it's worth looking into information about it. There are days when it seems everything bothers me. I usually back down to turkey and rice and it seems to help.
It's tough when even our safe foods look suspicious. I hope you find some answers too!
