Advice on adding next item to my diet........

Post by HappyBird »

At the moment my diet consists of :

Turkey, sweet potato, carrot, banana, ghee, salt, pepper, tea, coffee, small amount sugar,
Kosher collagen, almond milk, almond butter, Rice Chex Original, 30ml berry juice in 250mls
still water.

I would love something green in my diet - my favourite foods are:
coriander, parsley, baby spinach, pak choi, baby gem lettuce, garlic, Tumeric.

Please make suggestions that are or even not on my favourite list. I need to be sensible and avoid MC flare ups.[/b]

Hi, Happy. I eat steamed broccoli, zucchini and asparagus. Those are the only green vegetables that I eat. I also roast the zucchini with coconut oil. I don't like roasted broccoli, it always tastes funny to me. Interesting that you can tolerate collagen. I tried it but it caused my stool to be hard to pass. Our bodies are all so different.

Most of those you listed are not optimal choices for an MC recovery diet (though that doesn't necessarily mean that you would not be able to tolerate them). However, I agree with Marcia, and most of us here can also tolerate well-cooked green beans or kale.

Thanks Marcia & Tex........

As it so happens when I prepared my dinner, yes I make it fresh every meal, I ad intended to add some greens. My SO had been shopping and bought some coriander. When the time came I totally forgot to add it.
Good thing though if its not really something I ought to have just yet.

I usually eat zucchini raw or barely cooked. I use this gadget to make it into "vegetable spaghetti"

I used it last a year ago when my SO said she was tired of vegetable spaghetti. It's coming back into use just for me!

That settles it.........zucchini next. I'm looking forward to that.

Tex.......I must admit to us having a copy of your book, I couldn't read it when it arrived - too sick and befuddled. Do you have a list of food suggestions to begin adding. My partner has read your book and done research for me when I couldn't. Fortunately, I have turned a corner and able to take responsibility myself now.

We are all so different that it's impossible to create a list of suitable foods that will work for everyone, and it's best to wait before trying to add very many foods until after we have been in remission long enough to allow some significant intestinal healing. The safest foods to try in general are the less common (or wild) meats, and other peeled, well-cooked vegetables or fruit — IOW, paleo foods (but still well-cooked). Eventually most of us are able to eat raw vegetables and fruit again, but this requires a significant amount of healing, so that the inflammation level in the gut is greatly reduced.

Take it slow adding new ingredients,
My advice is small serve, no more than 1/4 cup for a couple of days.
Like a baby, our digestion is fragile, any new ingredient is likely to cause a mild reaction.

In line with Tex's reply there is no set eating plan that works for all,
The basis is bland, well cooked, minimal ingredients.
Minimal processed foods/flours.

Work with what settles best, what you can readily access, what is affordable ...
Across the USA, what ingredients are available, affordable changes from east to west, north to south.
Never mind for those of us in other countries....
