I am into six months with the MC/LC problem - so it's early in the business of researching food choices. A few questions follow, and then some information that might help others.

Does anyone have comments on the following?

• Dairy products: Tex is right about the lactose & lactate tablets - at least in my case he is right. The problem is not the lactose. The problem is the casein. Casein is one of the proteins found in cow's milk. I tried one nice Greek yogurt and two slices of Kraft cheese, along with two lactate tablets. It took three days to recover.

• A combined intolerance for dairy products AND gluten further complicates the selection process, and the problem of finding anything that is tasty. In recent months most of my daily food intake has been a chore, largely because of the lack of interesting tastes and flavors.

• Which fruits can be eaten raw {bananas ?} and which require cooking first? Applesauce works well for me, but I don't know if the apples have been cooked first.

Some quid pro quo information:

• VEGENAISE: I found this locally, and it's working well as a mayonnaise replacement

• TASTY DRINKS: V8 - the red kind that has lots of tomato in it ……… Gatorade ……. Canada Dry ginger ale ….. Perrier water …….

• DESERTS: The usual ice cream and frozen yogurt are on the NO NO list. Many sherbets contain dairy products, but one can make a dairy free sherbet at home. SORBETT: I have found a very tasty frozen sorbet that is dairy free - in several fruit flavors. So far it's working well. There are a number of interesting recipes for home made sorbets.

I can't help you with the taste. Over 3 months in, and I'm still on a bland diet, but I feel tons better so it's worth it. I just had to change my way of thinking from "live to eat" to "eat to live". I do just fine.

Desserts: Coconut Bliss makes a nondairy ice cream that is delicious! It is also gluten free, soy free, egg free, as well as dairy free. It is made from all natural ingredients. I personally love the Naked Coconut one, but they do have lots of other flavors. I recently tried the dark chocolate one. I did ok with it, but it was a little too chocolatey for me! Guess I haven't had chocolate in such a long time that I really noticed. I'll stick with the Naked Coconut one for awhile. Here is a link and you can put in your zip code and it'll tell you where you can find it. It's pretty pricey as is anything with gluten free and all the other labels on it, but I'm worth it! :)

I have found the Nestle Quik liquid syrup does not contain dairy so I use it to make a mild chocolate coconut milk some times.

Rice Chex Regular and Cinnamon cereal are good with coconut or cashew milks.

Earth Balance spread Soy free in the red container is a good butter replacement on bread or potatoes.

There are Gluten free season coating mixes in the flour aisles of most stores for chicken and pork just check the boxes for any hidden nono's like dairy or soy.

Be sure you are only partaking in some of these that you are comfortable with. The seasoning coating may not agree with some newbies right away, but as we heal the gluten free seasonings will make things more palatable.

I'm kinda with Jari, after being away from a lot of sugar and have been on the VitD3 and Magnesium protocol I don't crave the sweets like I did 6 months ago. I do occasionally but that just tells me I need more magnesium :wink:

For me it is lots of protein, mixed with carbs and a beverage. Its slow adding vegetables at the moment.
