Vitamin D level checked

Post by twirlitgirl »

I had my blood analysis results back yesterday and wanted to share my Vitamin D level ,
#1 if it is sufficient enough for controlling M/C symptoms
#2 should I increase to boost it further.
results: Hydroxy Vitamin D 249 reference range as normal 76-250 nmol/L units
normal for a non M/C person or is it normal for having M/C ?
In relation to this as well my B-12 was recorded as 1475 reference range 221- pmol/L units.
I see this as very high but the result was recorded as normal as well..
thank you for reading, I do not understand how these numbers affect me, good or bad, , so any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Your vitamin D test result is at the top of the normal range, so that is more than adequate for anyone. You do not need to take more. How much have you been taking, and how long have you been taking that dose? You might need to reduce the dose somewhat if you're taking a large dose.

Your B-12 level also appears to be more than adequate, so you don't need to increase the amount you are taking.

Hi Tex,
I appreciate your fast response and thank-you so much for helping me figure this out, I have been taking Vitamin D3 2 25mg caplets 1000 UI with each of my breakfast lunch and sometimes with dinner not all the time. a total of 6 per day , I sometimes skip the evening dose should I just skip that one and see how things go? is this too much? Some days I feel so lost in knowing what is the right thing to do. thanks once again for your help Tex.

According to the Vitamin D Council, most people use an average of about 5,000 IU of vitamin D each day. I'm not talking about how much we take in, I'm referring to the amount that our body actually uses, on the average. Of course, people who have MC may use significantly more. If the MC is active, or if we are taking budesonide, we may use more.

But we get some vitamin D from the sun, and some from our diet. So in view of the fact that your level is near the top of the normal range, you definitely don't need to take more. I have no way of knowing how long you have been taking that amount, so unless you have been taking that amount for many months, your blood level might still be increasing. If that's the case, it might be a good idea to skip 1 or 2 caplets each day, to prevent your level from getting above range.

At least, that's what I would do in that situation.

You're very welcome,
Tex

Hi Tex,
thank-you so much for your reply yesterday, I apologize I didn't get back to you till now, I did not have my third dose of the Vitamin D3 last night with dinner, choosing just to continue with breakfast and lunch supplementing, and see how things go as you suggest, it is always a trial and error with this disease even with the vitamins. Wow..... I am thankful we are able to live with this disease once we figure out our triggers and foods to avoid and those to enjoy with every ounce of energy and celebrate life. so I am not complaining. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving weekend to one and all..

Hi Gabe,
thank-you so much for your reply as well, much appreciated to receive such wonderful help from you both who have been there and done that and helping so many, thank-you, thank-you.
Okay, to get back to your question ! I do use magnesium spray, the brand is Calm Magnesium Chloride Spray ingredients distilled water
and magnisium chloride. I liked it because there are no other ingredients in it, I use it twice a day, should I use it more often, and I do spray it on arms and legs, sometimes belly but more often
on arms and legs. the belly it stings a little... ( but does not sting when sprayed on arms and legs). Is there a reason for this?
Once again thank-you for your precious time, and advice on this journey. You both rock!!!! Have a great day!

Not sure about the stinging, it stings a bit when I spray my neck....

So long as you are getting a minimum of 400-600mg elemental magnesium per day, (each spray can be different with dosage) then you are getting ok amount...

I tend to need more than 600mg so use the spray a few times a day.

Here's to happiness and wellness continuing XXOOXX
