Hi, folks! Hoping someone can assist (I'm lookin' at you, Tex ) I tried calling Enterolab's number a few times earlier but kept getting one of those "your call cannot be completed as dialed" messages. Not sure what was going on...I definitely used the number from their website. They must be having phone troubles. Anyhoo, I'm trying to find out whether it's okay for my sample to contain Pepto Bismol and other meds/supplements. Is there anything I need to stop taking before I collect it? Like anything that would throw off the results? I decided to bite the bullet on the expense and just received my collection kit in today's mail. :) Thanks in advance!

If you are ordering a fat malabsorption test, then you should stop taking any fish oil supplements at least several days before collecting a sample.
The biggest med or supplement problem with stool tests for antibodies is immune system suppressants or corticosteroids that have been used for an extended period of time (such as budesonide taken for 6 months or longer). As far as I'm aware, Pepto shouldn't cause any problems with the test results, but you might verify that with the lab tomorrow, if you're concerned about it.

Thanks! Nope, not doing the malabsorption one. The phone thing was weird...it wasn't like they were closed, it was like the line didn't work for some reason. The first few times I tried, it never started ringing. Then I tried a couple more times and kept getting an automated message from Verizon that my call could not be completed. I just assumed their system was down or something. I'll try again tomorrow, but thanks for the info!

Whenever my cell phone does that, it's virtually always due to a problem with my phone or the mobile carrier, not the number I'm calling. If it doesn't ring, it's usually the phone, and rebooting it will fix it. When the carrier isn't able to complete a call, that's usually due to a tower problem or an overloaded system, but of course it can also be due to a problem with the landline at the destination, or the distribution system.
I don't know about Apple, but most of the android mobile operating systems appear to be similar to Windows in that if they are not rebooted occasionally, they slowly corrupt themselves and get bogged down (at least that's been my experience).

Thanks, Tex! Haha, I tried again today from a landline and still couldn't get through. The first two times I called, the line was busy (normal busy signal). The next two times, I got what sounded like a fax machine. Finally, I looked at the website again and saw that the number they have listed on their contact page (972-686-6869, https://www.enterolab.com/Customer/ContactUs.aspx ) is no longer correct. Yesterday, this same number was going across the red banner on their home page, as well (or at least I'm 99.9% sure it was). But today, there is a new # on the homepage- 214-662-1966- and that one works. :) They must be transitioning the other number over to a fax line or something. Anyhoo, you were right- they said not to worry about the Pepto. Muchas gracias!
