Effexor vs. Paxil

Post by Leah »

Hi folks. It's been a little while since I've posted. As for my MC, I am pretty much in remission and can even ( every so often) sneak in a bit of dairy and soy with no ill effect :)

Some of you know that I have had breast cancer and then had to have a hysterectomy ( which through me into instant menopause) I tried for six months to deal with the constant hot flashes and night sweats, but I wasn't getting sleep. Because of the breast cancer, I am unable to take any hormones ( natural or synthetic). So..... the only option for me is a low dose of an antidepressant ( eye roll). I have never needed this type of medication, so I was very wary. Anyway, I first decided to try Effexor. It worked for the hot flashed right way! A little constipation, but hey, it's not D! But I was unhappy with the sexual side effects, so I switched to Paxil. What a MISTAKE! THE D CAME BACK WITHIN 3 DAYS! I new that SSRI are contraindicated for us and there was the proof.

So, if anyone out there is looking for an alternative to their SSRI, you might want to give Effexor a try. I am on a half dose. My MC is fine, but I am still bummed that I have to choose between a sex life and sleep :(

Leah
I tried the generic form of Effexor back in March 30mg I was in A really good mood the first day but was feeling in in my head and face like I
was intolerant to it.The next morning I got up and was sick all day hot then cold and wiped out .
I wonder now if it was because I was just coming out the inflammation stage?

Thanks for sharing, Leah. It's good to know in case any of us need to take something down the road.
