A Very Delicate Question, Not For the Faint Hearted

Post by Lilja »

Hi all,

I apologize for this direct and very private issue. My English may be okay, but I don't know how to express myself in a polite and discrete manner in a foreign language..

I have noticed something weird, that I don't understand.

I see myself as being "in remission", but I can't help looking at the toilet paper every time I visit the bathroom. It has become a habit, or a compulsive act, you might say...

From time to time, there are tiny, tiny black grains on the paper; at the size of 1/10th of a pinhead, like grinded pepper. This occurs the days when I don't feel quite well, and I have loose stools. On days when I feel perfect, the poop comes in one piece, and these "grains" are absent from the toilet paper.

I've seen this mentioned in some other post, but I don't remember who wrote it.

Does anyone know what it is, and have any of you experienced the same?

Lilia

PS: After having posted this, I have been searching the internet. Some say these specks are hookworm eggs.

I hope you find the answers. Do you have other symptoms of hook worms?

The only colors I see when I wipe tend to be yellowish/green and red...very Christmas'ey I suppose.

Hi Lilia,

"Coffee grounds" poop can be a sign of upper GI bleeding (like from an ulcer). You might want to have it tested to make sure it is not blood.

Black specks can also be from oxalates. There's a great yahoo group called...trying low oxalates, that can help you figure out if that's an issue for you!
Good luck!

Yes, "coffee grounds poop" is a good description.
I'll have to check it further.

Thank you

Hi,

I have taken a stool test, and there was no blood in stool.

That's a relief.

Thanks for the update.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I see what you describe pretty often. I haven't been alarmed by it, figuring it's something I ate, or maybe even leftovers from supplements I take.
