Enzymes
Hi,
Through our FB Group working to fight the new law against import of supplements and to reclassify supplements as vitamins and not medications, I got in contact with a lady who also has CC. She mentioned that she takes enzymes consisting of plants, glutamine and herbs, to be able to digest all nutrients in food.
Is this wise? Do we lack enzymes - among all other impairments?
I noticed this morning that I have gained 2 kilos since January this year. It made me super happy!
Organic contents:
Protease, amylase, lipase, cellulase, laktase, invertase, xylanase, galaktosidase, maltase, glukoamylase, pektinase, endo-PGO, phytase, glukanase, hemicellulase, L-glutamine
PS: We had a demonstration in front of our Parliament last Saturday. The two main tv companies were present and interviewed us. We have written and appealed to all political parties, the Health and Care Department and a lot of people with influence in society.

If the lady who recommended those enzymes to you is not controlling her MC symptoms by correcting her diet, then she probably needs those supplements. If we control the inflammation in our gut, we don't need them. Some members of this board have posted that taking enzymes have helped them. When I tried this though, it instantly made me so sick that I have never been tempted to touch another enzyme supplement ever again.
Most enzyme supplements are made from plants/herbs, etc. Humans are not plants, so I would be surprised if those enzyme supplements are chemically-identical replacements for the enzymes that we normally produce. They might have the same chemical names, but that does not mean that they will work exactly the same way as the enzymes that we normally produce.
Despite my bad experience with enzymes, I doubt that they would hurt you. But I also would be surprised if you would actually derive as benefit from them as the manufacturer will derive from the money you spend on them.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Tex,tex wrote:When the small intestine is inflamed, it reduces/curtails the production of certain enzymes, the number of which depends on how long the inflammation lasts. As the inflammation diminishes, we regain the ability to produce adequate amounts of those enzymes.Code: Select all

She actually didn't recommend enzymes, but I thought maybe I had missed something along the way as to heal. But, I know that I haven't read much about enzymes at our board.
Since I have started to gain some weight, I conclude that my digestion is starting to work as the inflammation is diminishing.
I take your advice, Tex. No reason to reinvent the wheel
Thank you, Tex!

You're very welcome.
Remember that what I posted is only based on my own experience. Some members here swear by enzymes. We all have our own opinions about things of this sort, and often those opinions vary a lot.

Hi, Lilja! I take enzymes with no ill effects and do feel that they help me digest foods a bit better. I use this brand: http://www.amazon.com/Rainbow-Light-Adv ... ve+enzymes I'm definitely still inflamed, so perhaps that's why they work for me. I'm sure this is not the case for everyone. Hope that helps!

Agree with Lucy, enzyme help you digest.
Albeit it is not necessarily a direct help to 'HEALING'
the main thing that helps you heal is
- TIME! and sticking with the eating plan that is working for you
- minimal nutritional deficiencies
- essential elements proven to heal/heal leaky gut (the digestive enzymes do not contain these ingredients..)
