homemade "earth bags"
Haven't been on board for a little while--have been in the basement sewing. When I go to the store, I carry my bags with me. They were called Earth Bags and I bought them at the grocery store many years ago. I think it is such a waste to accumulate all those plastic bags, and you can only use so many of the paper bags. By reusing these canvas bags my husband says we "leave a lighter footprint on the earth." So I decided my kids needed this kind of bag, but I couldn't find them for sale so I decided to make some. You get two bags out of one yard of 45" wide fabric and the fabric was on sale, so they're not only easy but cheap! You need 1 yd. of webbing for the two handles per bag.

Hazel....They look great. And you are right. I hate all the plastic bags. I have taken pics of the last three afghans I have made. As soon as I get it developed I will post pics. I always get CD's with hard copies. It's so much easier than scanning. Besides right now my scanner is being pissy...pardon the word. Love Oma
Hi Kathy,
Your bags are great! I've carried my own cloth bags to the store for years. In Ca. they sold them in the grocery sotres, but not here. I also take back plastic ones and reuse them. I hate all those plastic bags we accumulate. We use for them for pooper scoopers on doggie walks, also.
Yesterday I was at Kohl's and said "skip the bag" to the cashier. I carried my rug out "au naturel" . Plastic bags are one of my pet peeves.
Love,
Alice

There are campaigns in the stores to cut back on plastic bags here too. We mostly reuse ours & also carry store bags in the car. These are some sort of fabric & are sold for $1 each & hold quite a bit. I also take my backpack on shopping expeditions & you can just pop your purchases straight in without a bag or wrapping.
