Magnesium Citrate

Post by Marcia K »

Good evening. I have been using magnesium gel for several months and it definitely helps me sleep better. After reading on here that some take Magnesium Citrate without it causing D I decided to try some. I haven't been taking it very long, but I didn't have a movement for 3 days and then it was hard to pass. I am only taking 200 mg. at dinner time. I drink a full glass of water with it as directed on the bottle. Does anyone else have this issue? I know that large doses can cause D but I guess it doesn't surprise me that I would have a totally different reaction to it. I didn't take any today and I'm thinking maybe I'll take it earlier in the day tomorrow. I don't know if that will make a difference or not.

Hi Marcia,

Frankly, it never occurred to me that magnesium citrate could cause C. I take 200 mg of magnesium citrate after breakfast each day (along with 100 mg of magnesium glycinate), but I haven't noticed any problems with C.

You might be right — the time of day might make a difference (due to the lack of activity at night). Keep us posted on the results if you try that experiment.

Hello Marcia......

Two or three days ago I was a big mess - irritable, sleeping all day, labile, and up all night not able to sleep and generally not coping. I did have a dental issue wich responded to ? an antibotic. I had a dental appointment today because I thought I had an abcess. The dentist search, prodded, tapped and went back to check again on every tooth. He found nothing at all except a build up of tartre. He did my dental hygiene routine and I left having had no treatment. He says he doubts I had a dental abcess at all.

For two days I have faithfully taken Natural Ionic Magnesium and used magnesium oil and Vit D oil and today I have had the best day in months. I haven't needed to sleep or nap at all, in fact I went to the supermarket for shopping the first time for about a year. Last night I slept better than usual.

I found a link to a book written by a medical doctor who is qualified in alternative medicine and who has had severe GI issues. The book is well written, easy to read and gives information on many issues liked to magnesium deficiency and the importance of magnesium in our bodies. I bought the Ionic Magnesium after reading much of her book.

C. Dean MD., N.D., The Magnesium Miracle (revised edition), Ballantine Books, 2014

I recommend anyone who has not read the above book to do so.

Jen
all my posts in the sticky area about magnesium are excerpts from that book....
and I have found other scientists/practitioners who also write about magnesium..

Really chuffed to hear the diligent intake of Magnesium and Vit D has helped - if you keep up the intake of high doses things will improve

hope the wellness and improvements continue

hugs
Gabes

PS - i struggled to fix leaky gut issues for a long time, once i had all my dental issues fixed (ie no excess bacteria from teeth going into the gut every day) the leaky gut healed way way easier...
definately stay on top of dental issues, and dental issues is a common thing amongst MC'ers

Hi Gabes...........

I have read a lot on this forum........still early days, so haven't read nearly everything at this point. I'll pop over next to read all your info on magnesium. I'm absorbing it every which way at the moment.

Someone in the last few days posted a link to Dr. Dean on YouTube, where the book The Magnesium Miracle was spoken about. I then went to her website and proceeded to purchase the book on Amazon. I sat and read and read, went straight back to Amazon to purchase Ionic Magnesium, and other Ionic products which I plan to introduce soon. I went back to Amazon to buy three more copies for my sons and a friend.

My dental work was done over twenty five years ago in SA. My dentist today is so impressed at how my bridge work and crowns have lasted and still in excellent order. He wants to photograph them, maybe x-ray, them. He says the techniques they used for my dental work have changed and the techniques are not used anymore, and he's not sure why. The old adage "if it's not broke, don't change it. I got the impression modern dental work is not that long lasting.

Fortunately, my dental health is excellent, despite the bad events the rest of my body has suffered. Since my twenty five year old dental work was done all the dentist does now is check my teeth and remove any plaque. I have been very fortunate.

I am thinking that after reading the book - you now see why we recommend VIt D3 and Magnesium so strongly

I have the paper copy of the Dr Dean book. and quite a few other books about nutrient/cell health....

Thanks, Jen. I will have to check out the book. That's why I tried the magnesium citrate, I wanted to get more into my body. I just have to figure out what caused the C. I'm working on it.

You're welcome Marcia.....

Just a tiny warning........magnesium citrate is also more widely known as Epsom salts.
Magnesium Citrate helps relax bowel spasms and is an osmotic laxative. Magnesium citrate is non addictive and gentle. To determine the level of magnesium to take, start with 1/day with or without food. Then daily, increase by 1. Stop when stools are normal. For instance, 1-2 magnesium citrate 1-2X/day is a common dosage. Dr. Steve Clark, ND. http://steveclarknd.com/?page_id=201
The above refers to treating constipation with magnesium citrate, but I do think his slow increase regime is very sensible for increasing the daily amount to find your comfort zone.
