Frequency of loose movements

Post by Jimbo1968 »

Hi all. I've got a question on frequency of loose bowel movements . I'm now at the point of getting diarrhea one day a week. Sometimes it will be possibly 4 times in reasonably quick succession and then it's over , other times it's just one watery movement and it's all over. Does anyone else follow this kind of routine. I know it's a bit like asking how long a piece of string is but none the less I'd still appreciate some peoples feedback.
I usually get a warning of onset with gurgling intestines for an hour or two before start

Hello Jimbo..........

That sounds exactly what was happening to me for about five years before my big flare. Most of these episodes happened at night between 10pm - 3am. and were accompanied by cramps and a sicky feeling. I sat near the loo for hours waiting for what I believed was the last WD - on average the D arrived in batches about 30mins apart. Sometimes x3 - 5 D's per episode. I couldn't sleep before 3am and sometimes later which meant my sleep pattern was disturbed and it caused chaos in my life.

In June this year I had one huge episode (flare) that lasted eight weeks. At this time I was doing 4 - 10 WD per day.

After not being able to access doctors quickly enough my partner did research, found this forum. I turned a corner after stopping the NSAID I was on and commenced a strict elimination diet.

Jim
my poop changes a bit over the week, (keep in mind that for most of my MC journey I was C dominant)
I dont strive for exact perfection every day, so long as there is minimal symptoms (pain, gas, etc) and the poop is a reasonable colour and diameter then I am chuffed.

it may not be the same every day depending on weather, how much water we drink, did we stick to the eating plan (what we eat and what time we eat etc) stress, sleep patterns etc...

if there is a day that is worse than others, review what you did the day before, food, activities, locations, any additional stress etc and this will give an indicator of triggers

I like Gabes answer. It kind of just all depends on a lot of circumstances. I think if we are not having frequent (3+) bowel movements a day then we can consider ourselves not "flared". Beyond that, based on my experience, then there is probably definitely some WD happening and it's hard to tell what may be aggravating the situation. We just have to cut back to what we know is safe food wise. In the "not flared but getting there" state, then it is just a matter of what may be affecting us. New foods, too much food that is potentially inflammatory, medications, stress, lack of sleep? The list is long. But it's important to identify so that we don't cross over to a full blown flare. That's my experience.

Thank you Gabe and Gigi for sharing your experience with me. you mentioned activity trigger which I suspected for a while. I've previously managed to avert a flare up simply by going to bed, I got the early rumbling warning and decided to go bed and managed to avoid it. Gabe I know exactly what you mean by chuffed , I can't believe the pre occupation with normal bowel movement and how it cheers me up for the rest of the day. Thank you for your time Jim
