Wisdom tooth and inflammation
I have to take penicillin for a wisdom tooth infection....is that going to screw up my gut? Still trying to heal.

It may or may not....I know that isn't a very good answer, but I have taken Zpack and Keflex and neither bothered me. I have heard others where an antibiotic wasn't very helpful to them.
Think positive and you may just make it thru just fine

You're probably better off with penicillin than amoxicillin, but sometimes it's hard to win, and dental issues are one of the trickiest for MC patients. I had a reaction to a different antibiotic last spring, because of dental work. Sometimes we just have to do what we have to do, and hope for the best.

I had to use antibiotics due to an S. Aureus infection last winter. The tablets contained: Lactobacillus acidophius/Bifidobacterium lactis/Lactobacillus paracasei/Lactobacillus rhamnosus
But, there are a lot of other probiotics on the market, maybe other members have better solutions.
I didn't have a flare, everything went smooth.

I am dealing with a gum infection, which, in addition to making all my teeth and head hurt, is aggravating my colitis. Anyhow, I think I may have to bite the bullet and take antibiotics 
. I'm allergic to Penicillin, so I was wondering which antibiotic might be easiest for our sensitive systems to deal with? Appreciate any suggestions.

I have just come back from the dentist - the appointment was made because I was convinced I had a dental abcess. I took Clarithromycin started 3days ago, before that I took a full course of Metranidazole wich did nothing. Turns out the dentist, and I believe him, tells me he is convinced I did not have a dental abcess or infection. Both my partner and I were shocked but pleased.
It is very important not to neglect dental abscesses, particularly on the upper jaw because these infections can rise to the brain and be deadly. My partner did a PM on an eight year old boy who had a history of several visits to dentist and GP with toothache. The abcess penetrated the sinuses and found a path to the brain and the poor child died of a brain abcess. He was badly treated but this illustrates the importance of treating and preventing dental infections/abscesses. This is a very fairly unusual case but illustrates the dangers of untreated dental infections.
Ultimately, you need to make the best decision for yourself. I hope the antibiotic therapy doesn't affect you, if it does stop and get another that works. Hoping for a good outcome for you.

Cipro is the least likely antibiotic to cause MC symptoms, but as you are probably aware, it now carries black box warnings about tendonitis, torn ligaments, tinnitus, and peripheral neuropathy. I recently took it for a dental procedure and while it did seem to make my existing tinnitus worse (at least temporarily) it didn't cause any GI issues. Prior to that I took Bactrim, which is claimed to be a "trouble-free" antibiotic, but it depleted my magnesium, which lead to a rather severe reaction. Maybe it would have been OK if I hadn't already had an existing chronic magnesium deficiency condition.
Some people have good luck with azithromycin (Z-Pak), but others disagree.

sorry to hear you are having gum/dental issues
Brushing gums /teeth with zinc liquid (readily available via amazon or iHerb) is a fantastic way to stop the bacteria getting into the gut and aggravating the MC
I also use 'Earth Paste' toothpaste (or you can make a natural one with bicarb and coocnut oil) again this will have natural antibacterial properties and minimise the bacteria getting to the gut
this might be a good way to avoid antiobiotics

On the subject of toothpaste.........
I believe from reading Dr. Deans book that fluoride strips magnesium from our bodies. Today I scoured Waitrose for non-fluoride toothpaste.........there was non! Does anyone know of a toothpaste without flouride before a research home made toothpaste?
Years ago the government promoted and recommended flouride to be added to toothpaste and other products to prevent tooth decay.
