Tex,

How did you fair from the hurricane?

I've been hoping all is well, and the damage is minimal for you.

Hi Linda,

We're OK here in Central Texas, but I haven't heard any updates from relatives along the Gulf. All we had here was a little over 6 inches of rain, but it fell relatively slowly, and it was so dry here due to virtually no rain since June, that most of it soaked in, and the creeks only had a tiny rise around here. Some areas north of here had 15 to 20 inches yesterday, so they had some serious flooding, especially around Corsicana (SE of Dallas).

For us though, it was little more than a drought buster (at least we hope the drought is broken, because a huge area of Texas received a lot of rain).

Thanks for asking,
Tex

Tex,

That was a lot of rain for other parts of your state...wow, can't imagine 20 inches!
Glad the rain helped your drought, though!

Hopefully the water has receded in the areas that were flooded by now. I can't even imagine the clean up that will start to take place this week.

Jen,

I believe that Houston had about 9 inches of rain, which caused some flooding in areas of course, but I haven't heard of any serious damage there.

Thanks Tex..........

Its a worry when loved ones live in flood prone or extreme bad weather areas.

GMum and hubby take a three month overseas holiday in Housten's hottest season, is that also the hurricane season perhaps?

Yes it is. We're nearing the tail end of the hurricane season now. I'm sure the main reason why they choose to leave Houston that time of year though is because of the high temps together with high humidity during the summer. I live about 240 km inland from there, and while it gets hotter here, the humidity is usually much lower, so it's not nearly as uncomfortable.
