Soda with sugar cane?

Post by crervin »

Does anyone know where I can get a caffeinated soda with sugar cane? There is conflicting info about whether the Mexican coke has gluten in it. I don't drink a lot of sodas, but occasionally I need to. Currently, I have given up coffee. Some days I need some soda to get me through the day. HFCS causes me problems, so I'm avoiding it like the plague!

Thanks guys
Martha E.

Dr. Pepper has made a cane sugar version in Texas for years. I'm not sure how far they are distributed, though. It's available online if your local grocery stores don't stock it, but it's mighty overpriced online.

Thanks Tex..........

I'm not really a soda beverage fan but on my very restricted diet it may be a nice change to my one coffee and 2L of spring water per day every now and then.

CocaCola Life is sweetened with a mixture of sugar and stevia. I am not sure if my local WalMart carries it. The other grocery store in my area does carry it.

Oh that would be great Erica. I found Virgil's root beer, but it doesn't have caffeine. I will keep my eye out. I'm thinking the same thing, just make the good old fashioned sodas that we grew up on!

Oh happy day Erica, I found Pepsi with sugar at walmart! Thank you! Not going to drink it often but on those days when my kids wake me at all hours of the night :mallet:

Hey, how did the salad go, so anxious to hear?? I do miss those the most. I lived off of fresh veges and salads for most of my life and can say that is really what I miss most. Forget about gluten, bread was never in my meals really.

Had Normans all day, so exciting! 3 months 1 week in (I believe), allergy meds have been my problem. Corn is starting to look worse than soy for me. They put it in EVERYTHING! Not sure about BAM yet, I have a prescription of questran (regular) but it only happens when I eat EVOO or steaks. Still eating mostly turkey and coconut oil.....

So glad to hear you are still well!! It makes me smile!

Are you aware that many brands of imported olive oil are notorious for being diluted with soy oil these days?

Martha
great news that things are on the improve!

tough gig re the corn but now you know what the major triggers are, things will get easier and some healing start happening

I could never tolerate olive oil, only use rice bran oil or coconut oil.

Tex and Gabes, no I did not! That would be great if it were that! Even the exspensive EVOO from Spain? I will def check into that! Trying to totally get off benedryl, it has magnesium stearate that causes me problems but not as bad as corn starch. Without it, I believe I would be in remission! Thank you so guys! You all are the reason for this, many many thanks!!!

Jari, so so glad you are doing well too!!

Martha,

You may find this article to be helpful:

Is Your Olive Oil Really Olive Oil?

From that article:
Another health issue that can arise from using adulterated olive oil is the one caused by excessive intake of omega-6 fats from the soybean, sunflower, safflower, canola, or any other cheap high-PUFA oil being added: generation of inflammatory eicosanoids, systemic inflammation, and oxidized blood lipids. Luckily, the fridge test is sufficient to ferret out PUFA-rich “olive oil” and prevent this from harming you.
You might try the "fridge" test on your oil.
The Fridge Test

By now, you’ve probably all heard about it: to test the legitimacy of a supposed olive oil, stick it in the fridge for a day or two. If it begins to solidify, you’ve got yourself a bottle of true extra virgin olive oil. Does it hold true?

Kinda.

Pure monounsaturated fat, also known as oleic acid, solidifies at 39 degrees F. Since olive oil is primarily oleic acid (about 70-85 percent, generally), sticking a bottle of real olive oil in the fridge should elicit solidification. The original olive oil adulterants, sunflower oil and safflower oil, were mostly polyunsaturated, so adulterating olive oil used to be easy to spot. Now, with high-oleic sunflower oil, high-oleic safflower oil, and high-oleic canola oil on the scene, adulterated olive oil can still solidify in the fridge. Thus, the fridge test is still a necessary, but not sufficient, test for the legitimacy of your extra virgin olive oil. It’s really a test for the degree of monounsaturation in the oils. It’s important (toss any oils that fail the test), but it’s not the full story.
Soybean oil and corn oil are also high in polyunsaturated fats, so they would show up in the fridge test (IOW, they would not solidify at 39 degrees F).

Is a maddening minefield! Soy in olive oil, milk casein in potato crisps, it's ridiculous.
Off to check my different oils.
