Elimination Day 35........Still losing weight

Post by HappyBird »

I had my first very big ?MC flare early July 2015 lasting eight/nine weeks. My D disappeared soon after starting the elimination diet. I'm through the migraine headaches from the withdrawl symptoms of going cold turkey on my strict GF, DF, SF, LF diet.

My bowels are still not regular - ranging from Bristol 1 - 5, mainly in the 3/4 region sometimes missing two or three days.

Should I be worried about my small but regular weightloss. I am over weight so a certain amount of weightloss is beneficial as long as it doesn't become something I can't stop.

When can I be sure I'm in the recovery stage, absorbing food properly and maintaining my weight?

I'm still losing weight also. I have it to lose though. I'm down about 35 pounds since Memorial Day of this year. It's coming off slowly now, but I'm not really eating anything to put weight back on. I am eating enough food though. My doctor said it was perfectly fine.

I found that when I was reacting, the weight came off in a hurry. The same thing happened last spring when the magnesium deficiency issue came to a head. I was losing 1 kg per week, every week, despite eating more than enough food, and this went on for many weeks. However, in the first example, after my gut began to heal, I found it very easy to gain weight again. Likewise when I started taking more magnesium — my weight quickly returned to normal, at a rate at least as fast as it went down.

It appears to me that most people who complain of not being able to gain weight after reaching remission, simply are not taking in enough calories. One cannot gain weight on a diet that barely provides enough calories to maintain weight. It's necessary to eat more food — not more variety — just a larger amount of the food that is safe for us (or add some snacks during the day).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Agree with Tex,
As we have previously discussed, fixing deficiencies can take a minimum of 8 weeks of high doses. Only when the cells have the right nutrients can they rebuild properly -ie healing process...

Day 35 is only 5 weeks, and as we discussed in the magnesium post, it is highly likely you have a moderate magnesium deficiency.... Based on what you have shared you will need the 8 weeks or more of high dosing
It takes 6 months for gluten antibodies to fully leave.

Strict with the bland safe diet, stick with the Vit D3 and Mag. Relax, don't overthink it....

Thanks Jari, Tex & Gabes........

I'm losing about 1.25kgs a week at present so I guess my gut is still not healed yet. I don't feel bad or as tired as I did a month ago. I still have a nap here and there but not sleeping all day anymore. My headaches are better too and some of that brain fog has lifted.

I know wear a Withings Pulse Ox which monitors my sleep, quality of sleep, pulse, weight, steps, inclination, total distance walked, oxygen uptake. There is a facility to log the diet and get feedback but not sure I'll use the diet help. We bought a carbon monoxide monitor and found the bedroom was getting to high levels after a couple of hours. This was brought to normal levels by opening a window - it's now permanently open. Our other rooms are fine. I think the bad air in the bedroom was responsible for my poor sleep and very difficult mornings. I just couldn't wake up in my own.

I try to make sure I get enough fat in my diet as the turkey is very lean. I don't have the biggest appetite and often forget to eat if on my own or very busy. My GI offered to refer me to a Registered Dietitian but I'm holding out on this option for now.

I am being very diligent about my Magnesium & Vit D spray and my Ionic Trace Elements, Selenium, Magnesium & Zinc. I guess it all takes time.

For weeks I have wanted beef tea, today I made a batch at home from a trusted grass fed beef source in the UK. I plan on trying a few ounces for a start in the hope I don't react.

My diet before my flare was mainly fish, prawns with beef once a week and the odd pheasant. Our chickens are contaminated with salmonella so it's been ages since we allowed any into the house for fear of cross contamination. It's an ugly bug. I cook for two dogs and four birds besides ourselves so chicken is a no no!

have you reviewed the success stories area and the polls about how long did it take?

lucky ones have healing in 3-6 months
most fall into the 6-18 months category
and for some it takes longer

it most definately takes time - time and nurturing
there will be gradual improvements over the weeks, hang in there...
