High dose flu shot for seniors

Post by nancyl »

Has anyone taken advantage of the high dose flu shot for seniors? I have heard of a few getting sick from it. I know my doctor is going to suggest it when I go this week, although my PCP didn't push it when I saw her last week.

Just curious.

I have had a flu injection, not sure if it was high potency or regular. When I see the GP next week I'll ask.

Fluzone HD is only approved for those over 65. Studies have shown it is more beneficial and if I'm not mistaken, Medicare will not even pay for the regular flu shot. Also, the flu vaccine is inactivated. It cannot cause the flu.

My grandma is 84, since she turned 75 she has been offered the stronger flu shot, every time she has the stronger one you can guarantee that she will be in hospital with a severe chest infection within 3 weeks. Although she does have a lot of respiratory problems which don't particularly help.

Why am I not surprised?

Thank you for sharing that information, Katy.
