I'm keeping this report to myself unless I hit upon something that absolutely needs to be told. I haven't even told my husband I am doing it. You're right Gabes, the interest just isn't there in many around me. My husband might be interested in a little of it after the fact, but to talk to him about it now isn't worth my breath right now.

I'd be happy to swap info as it presents itself  I may need a bit of guidance too.

Gabes, when we get the data, how do you analyze it then in regards to your health. Which third party did you use?

I used Genetic Genie.
It sounds like existing customers will be given the new data. From their site
This information applies to customers who either:

Already have their 23andMe results, or
Have not yet received results, but purchased the kit prior to October 21, 2015
The new 23andMe experience reflects almost two years of work to create a new product with a redesigned site and better functionality. The service now includes reports that meet FDA standards for being scientifically and clinically valid.

If you are already a 23andMe customer, you have been using the original version of our site and features. Existing customers will be transitioned to the new experience as quickly as possible. The timing of the transition will depend on the chip version you were genotyped on.

We will be rolling out access to the new 23andMe gradually; there will be a period of some weeks where some customers will be on the new version of the site and some will not. This may temporarily impact your ability to connect and communicate, but we hope to complete the transition of all customers in as short a time as possible while maintaining the stability of both versions of the site.

You will receive an email update from 23andMe when the new version is available for your account.

Deb,
From what I can ascertain, customers outside of the USA can not access those reports. New customers doing the testing now and previous customers before reporting was available.

Report options
-Prometheus - provides a report on risk factors for many conditions/health issues. Also report on medications, which ones are ok and the ones that you may not do so well on. Also some general type info on metabolism/caffeine etc.
-genetic genie. Provide methylation profile and detox profile
-livewello - more comprehensive health reports, I like their methylation profile better. And they have sub sections on IGE, IGG and some other groupings.
-nut hacker. I have not used this but think it is methylation only.

There is another one that I did if you are trying to compare your results with another family member or distant relative. I will look up the site. If you do a search on this forum for 23andme or DNA. You will see the conversations and links to websites that we had about 12 months ago.

I am having a hard time following all of this dialogue, probably because all of this is new to me. I have been diagnosed with collagenous colitis, and am taking Lialda, however my liver enzymes are rising and my GI doc is concerned. Is it the Lialda, or the Lexapro I take, or the disease itself. I am planning on doing the testing through Enterolab, to check my sensitivities. Should I be doing the 23 and me instead. looking back at my health history I have suffered with this disease for many years (I am 61), it just escalated to the point where I finally went to a GI (recommended by a friend), who did not say you have IBS. Just downloaded Tex book and wanting to learn as much as I can. All advice welcome.

for now enterlab and sorting out your eating plan is your best way forward.
Getting onto a bland, well cooked, low amount of ingredients eating plan.

the 23andme type testing is not essential, and not for for everyone. I generally suggest it for people with multiple AI issues and who are struggling to attain wellness.

hope this helps

It could be either the Lialda or the Lexapro. Both show a relatively low risk of liver damage in trial data. But an internet search shows quite a few complaints from users about elevated liver enzymes.

And I agree with Gabes about priorities when treating this disease.

Fruits are best avoided because of both fructose (which we tend to have a problem digesting when we are reacting) and fiber, but small amounts can be eaten if they are peeled, and well-cooked. The only raw fruit or vegetable most of us can usually tolerate while recovering is banana.

have you read Erica's thread?

this will give you a good idea on meals, and the mental and emotional journey of accepting life with MC

so from what you say, you would recommend the Prometheus and Livewello test then?

Louis, those are not tests — they are data analysis services that can be used to analyze and interpret the raw data from your 23andme test results. In other words, they use the raw data from 23andme to provide reports about various health considerations that might be of interest to you.

I want to order the 23andme. Are there certain ones we should choose or are they all the same?

Thanks,

Connie,

I'm not familiar enough with those tests and analytical processes to be of any help. Hopefully someone else can offer some insight on your questions.

Connie,
There have been recent changes to the offering by 23andme, where for USA residents reporting option is available, albeit it has been and still is only 1 test that is offered.

Not sure if the data only option is offered. best to go to the web site and look.
