Jean wrote:Tex, I have one more question. A bit earlier you suggested I take up to 4 times the normal dose. The box says to take one every 4 to 6 hours with a 6 pill maximum per day. If you meant 24 pills per day, that would wipe out a box daily. Not sure if you meant that much.
If that is a 4-hour antihistamine, then that would be the correct maximum dose. Most of the newer antihistamines last for 12 or 24 hours, though. Some of the older first generation antihistamines only lasted for 4 hours. The idea is to take whatever dose gets the job done, up to a maximum dose of 4x the labeled dose. That doesn't mean that you have to take that many. Take only as many as needed up to that maximum dose. IOW, as is the case with a lot of things, this requires trial and error to determine a dose that works, without taking more than is needed to do the job.
4x the labeled dose is the maximum treatment dose used by allergists when treating chronic urticaria with antihistamines.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hello! Realizing this is an older thread, I'm a newbie here and wanted to chime in (of COURSE!) and say YES! I've been experiencing bumps on my scalp/head, and even some acne (which I fortunately never had as a teenager) on my face!! My ND (naturopathic doctor) felt it may be part of the de-toxing going on as I work on cleaning up my diet?? I haven't changed shampoo products either. I was trying rubbing some extra virgin olive oil into my scalp before shampooing as I've heard it can have some antioxidant properties and may also help stimulate hair follicles. I only wash my hair as needed for social outings, 2-3 times a week.
The itchy eyes, forearms and lower legs, Tex!! That describes my other symptoms to a "T" for Tex!! I will try upping my antihistamine a little. Am still confused about those. I'm waiting for shipment of Allegra to arrive; meanwhile, I've been taking some Zyrtec for this week. I ran out of Allegra and decided to stop taking it after 5 weeks to see how I did, and my MC symptoms seem to be returning, so I'm going back on the antihistamines.
I read here that both Allegra and Zyrtec may be contraindicated for MC users? I can't take Benadryl, and can't go prescription route, so I'd love to hear from those of you taking an antihistamine what it is you take, how much, and for how long. Perhaps I should try going up on higher amount of Allegra for a period of time and see if that puts a stop to my returning MC symptoms? Looking back, perhaps I should have gone to an Allegra every other day instead of just stopping them. Shopping is a big challenge for me right now, so I order a lot from smiley.Amazon and online, and often have Safeway deliver to me.
Budesonide didn't seem to work that well for me. Do you think pursuing the Entero Labs and really finding out my food triggers from the stool test (already know my blood testing) is likely the best next step for me? Is there a way to find out more about one's tolerance to salad greens, fruits and other veggies other than the "try it and see" method? There've been times in the past few months when I've been able to tolerate a high fiber smoothie with some berries and variety of healthy greens. I was having 3 a week and doing well, then lately I know I have to back off as (I'm sure you all know!) when the MC symptoms are "iffy", the fiber is definitely not my friend!
Thank you for listening, and for all the great info and responses from this original post of a unique symptom - obviously, others have experienced it, including me!!
Yes, I need some help. Every time my husband and me go out to dinner, he sneezes three times. Is that an indication he's allergic to something? I usually eat seafood and feel safe. I am stuck on seafood. I avoid mashed potatoes because it jacks up my blood sugar. Dr. Fine, the great and wonderful Dr. Fine listed potatoes are fine but not sweet potatoes. I just avoid potatoes because of my diabetes.
My husband does not like seafood. I thought everybody liked seafood. He lived near Lake Erie and they have lots of fish. I won't eat octopus though! I have eaten shark and alligator. Never again. I can't eat lamb because I think of Bambi. Sad!
