So sorry
Could something you are not aware of in a food product be causing your problem? I am so glad this message board is here and that there are some very intelligent individuals who can explain and give some straight answers to help us! So much knowledge here and it's really like going to a class that we love because we are learning more and more about ourselves and also in some small way - helping others. What a gift! Thank you all!
Well, I know stress plays a role regarding our guts. I have had MC for quite a few years and does one who has been dx'd with this ever shed the disease? I have been very diligent with my diet in regards to being gluten free, no milk or eggs. I am still gassy but (knock on wood) no rushing trips to the throne from loose bowels in about a month! I have had stress from family and the holidays lately and I could feel it in my abdomen. I now have that ache sometimes on the lower left side ( which my pcp thought could be diverticulitis ) but now I have it on the lower right side. Why does this happen? I have been using vitamin D3 every day as well as Bone Up for my calcium etc… Magnesium spray too.

Dear hum bird 753m
I, too, have lost a sister in August she was my big sis. I know how it feels and it's hard to sometimes feel better. I cry at a drop of a hat as the holidays are a bit vacant because of her loss. I have her memory card and heart on my Christmas tree. We are not alone when the loss of a loved one we held so dear is no longer with us. Their memory can never fade from our hearts. May you find solace in knowing they want you to feel good again. I will say a prayer for you. God bless!

Mary Jo,
There is no cure for the disease, so we have to be careful about our diet at all times, and we have to try to keep our stress level down as much as possible. Occasionally, some people have periods of spontaneous remission (similar to Crohn's and UC), but those periods are usually temporary, and most of us are not that lucky.
Abdominal pain sometimes happens with MC, and it can be located in various places, but pain in the lower left quadrant might be associated with diverticulitis, because the same type of inflammation mechanism that causes LC (lymphocytic infiltration) also can be found with diverticulitis. Pain in the lower right quadrant is more likely to be associated with MC (because patches of inflamed areas due to MC tend to be more numerous in the right side colon than in the left side colon). Stress could be causing your MC symptoms.
I'm sorry that you lost a sister. That extra stress could certainly be causing your symptoms, or making them worse.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thank you both
Yes, when I first was dx'd with MC my pain was virtually on the left side, hence my pcp first instinct diverticulitis. Now, it is on my right side. Need to order another colonoscopy as it is long overdo anyways. If my MC is the culprit I am dealing with my diet and the insidious aches from this disease! Is sciatica related too?

Theoretically, sciatica shouldn't be associated with MC, but it seems to show up among various members here from time to time. Probably though, the incidence of sciatica among MC patients is approximately the same as among the general population.

Hi Paula, I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope your system settles down soon. I find that I can deal with many other stressors but grief and loss affect my gut the most.
Take care,
Carol

Carol - Thank you for your condolences. I'm the same in that I can deal with many stressors, but found that grief and loss affects my gut.

Dear Paula and Mary Jo,
I am so sorry for your losses! You are both in my thoughts!!
Stress has a huge impact on my gut, whether I like it or not. I started having my first MC symptoms shortly after my best friend passed away two years ago. I also have noticed since that certain stressors (grief, anxiety) will trigger D. It is often an immediate reaction, and as severe as inadvertently eating soy. A stressful phone call from a doctor's office about some test results that were not normal will send me straight to the bathroom. Almost like a fight or flight response. Obviously, D is not exactly helpful for fight or flight....
I am sending you both a big hug,
Patricia

My gut is not settling down yet. Tks everyone for your condolences.
I have lost 4 friends this year (1 yesterday) in addition to the 2 sisters who recently passed away. My mother-in-law had emergency gallbladder surgery yesterday and although she made it through, we've been told her system appears it may not be strong enough to recover. I am looking forward to a new year.
