Prednisone?????
Hello. I am now four months without D. I still cannot eat gluten, soya, fruit, lactose or anything cold (salads etc). My consultant advises I take 1mg of above 2 x daily. I am not sure. He says it might accelerate healing. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks
Never heard of Microscopic Colitis until yesterday when consultant advised me that my chronic, 3 month long, diarrhea indicated this diagnosis (though not confirmed). Shocked, stunned and reeling a bit, although part of me is pleased to be alive.

Your consultant is mistaken. Research shows that corticosteroids (such as prednisone) actually retard healing. Diet changes heal the intestines. Corticosteroids only mask the symptoms. If you are symptom free then you certainly do not need any corticosteroid (nor any of the side effects that they usually cause).
You will never be able to eat gluten or soya or casein (dairy) without reacting — those food sensitivities are permanent. But after your gut heals for a few more months you may be able to begin eating small amounts of fruit and raw vegetables.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thank you Tex. This is exactly what feels right. Strangely enough I can accept the fact - it is those around me who wish to 'fix' me. Thank you for being there....I am not sure what I would have done without you these last few difficult months. Wishing you the most amazing Christmas and every success in the New Year. Trying to convince friends and family that our condition is not just temporary seems to be a never-ending chore. As you say, they are always suggesting that we try this or that, despite our protests. But bless their hearts, they do it out of love and kindness, so what can we say. Eventually many of them learn to accept our new way of life, and it becomes easier, but some of them never seem to give up. I suppose that's just human nature.
We've been cooler than normal for a while here in Central Texas, but the predictions are for a warm Christmas here, also. I'm not a fan of cold weather, so that won't upset me.
