Another question about Bone Broth

Post by terre »

Regarding bone broth: If you bake a chicken and remove bones to make broth, can you add some of the chicken back in after making broth (for protein)? Can you freeze the broth with the chicken?

Just trying to figure this out.

Yep
no issues freezing the meat with the broth...

the only thing i would be cautious about is ensuring that you are including the meat the same day it was cooked. any later and it has risk of heightened histamine.

Great....I was hoping for that answer. I had been reading about heightened histamine.....so I made sure it was cooked the same day as the broth.

Thank you!

I personally have never had any histamine issues from bone broth.

I think it is mostly because I cook with it. I use the stove to reheat/recook meals it is in (I dont own a microwave) so if there is any histamine the recooking gets rid of it
the containers I use to store it in hold enough for 2-3 days

Enjoy!

I rarely use the microwave....just personal perference to heat on the stovetop. I had the broth today with GF pasta....not bad!

BTW, I'm sure you've answered this question before, but what do you eat when craving something sweet? I know I can have Rice Chex, but would like to have a few options.

You've been a great help!

Okay Gabes, you a better person than I am.....none of those would touch my sweet tooth....save the coconut chocolate!

I have seen something at the grocery called: SO Delicious Coconut Milk (Chocolate), supposedly GF/SF/DF.

After you reached remission, have you been able to stay in remission? If so, how long did it take? Have you been able to add any of your old "favorites" back to your diet?

i am not the best example per say.... as MC is not my only health issue / main health issue, at this stage I would say that MC is symptom of the other health issues.

The good news that with focus, patience and sticking with the plan my gut is in good shape, well healed, so triggers dont affect my gut too much, they affect my nervous system.

My eating plan is
- safe staples every day
- on good weeks I can have small amounts of sometimes foods in small servings.

too many sometimes foods or eating out has consequences and tends to affect nervous system more so than my gut. And can take me a week to recover.

Favourites from my pre MC days are either too fibrous and/or too much sugar and/or too inflammatory.

Sorry about the nervous system complications. Seems we all have "something else" relating to our health.....wonder which came first, the chicken or the egg!
Good to hear your gut is in good shape (thanks to all of your efforts).

Thanks for sharing,

HI Terre,

I have come across Nestle Quik Syrup (not the powder) chocolate (it should satisfy the sweet tooth)....I put it in my only cup of coffee a day and it acts like having a cup of hot cocoa for me. I am sure you could lick it right off a spoon and be just as happy with it ;-) It does have a little citric acid in it, but a little may not affect you.

If that doesn't do the trick there are Dark Chocolate or Semi dark morsels from Enjoy, I think some stores carry it, I picked up a few pkgs from vitacost on my last order and that will do the sweet tooth trick too.

All these are GF, DF, SF, and Eggfree.....
Cheers

Erica, LOVE IT......thanks SO much. I just need something when my sweet tooth starts nagging at me.

Funny that you mention Enjoy....just yesterday I read about Enjoy Life Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Chips....I plan on trying to find them.

Thanks,

Terre,

I saw where you mentioned the So Delicious brand, but I have stayed away from that brand, but there is another ice cream that is gluten, dairy, soy, and egg free. It's Larry and Luna's Coconut Bliss and my favorite kind is the Naked Coconut. It is really good and it gives me just enough sweet to be satisfied from time to time. They also have a dark chocolate one, but I found after not having chocolate for a really long time, the flavor was just too much for me. I can get the Coconut Bliss at my King Soopers (Kroger), but they also have it at Whole Foods and a lot of other little health places that stock food. Thanks to Erica, I also tried Hot Tamales and found that I can also have Mike and Ike's...I know. I know. PURE SUGAR! A couple will do the trick and it helps me feel normal! LOL!

Exactly Jari.....I know myself well enough that if I can't have a little something.....that I will fall off the wagon!

I will definitely look into Larry and Luna's and good to know about Hot Tamales, because I really like them and you're right about just needing a couple (or three).

I think I now need to look over the recipe section for options on regular food....not near as much fun! Ha!!! The bone broth is working fine and with the suggested noodles, is very filling.

Here's to feeling normal!
