dental issues are viral in origin not necessarily bacterial....
Evidence in the past 10 years indicated the footprints of herpesvirus in the characteristics of chronic periodontitis. However, the results are mixed. Some detected higher prevalence of herpesvirus infection while others did not.
To clarify this confusion, seven researchers from Shanghai, China, led by Ce Zhu of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Stomatology, reviewed all viral studies on the disease. They found the highest frequency of investigations centered on three Herpesvirus species: the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), and the herpes simplex virus (HSV). The other species include varicella zoster virus (VZV) and human herpesvirus (HHV).
