Itchy skin no rash

Post by mjbonsais »

Every so often I get an itching skin problem (even my scalp) and it sometimes disturbs my sleep. I am being diligent with my foods but wonder if this could be a symptom to mc as well? I don't believe its just dry skin either. I work for dermatologists and many patients appear to have cases of itching and the doctor usually says to use Sarna lotion and keep it in fridge as the coolness helps. Also, no hot showers. Please if anyone else has this problem I'd sure like to hear about this. Hope this isn't a redundant question but I searched but maybe not far enough on the archives.

Thanks!

Hi Mary Jo,

I have that problem, especially if I eat certain foods. It seems to be a histamine reaction. As long as I minimize high-histamine foods in my diet, and foods that liberate histamine, it's a minor problem. And hot showers do seem to make it worse. Antihistamines help, but they usually won't completely stop the problem if I overdo the high-histamine foods.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

this is frequent problem for people with zinc deficiency.

iherb has zinc liquid, you could mix this with some coconut oil and spread on your skin to relieve the itchiness.

might be worth getting zinc/copper blood levels tested before supplementing with zinc orally.
