Nutrition during healing

Post by Dmarielee »

This is my first post so please bear with me! I was diagnosed 1 1/2 yrs ago. I have found so much valuable and helpful info from reading this forum! Thank you! Now I have a question. While visiting family in Seattle during Christmas I wasn't as careful as I should have been and have really been paying dearly for it! Everything I ate hurt as it went down! So, I have been eating rice, homemade bison and chicken broth, and bland vegetables (for me) which have been cooked to death! My question is how do I get the nutrition to my body right now that I would normally get from the food I can eat? I'm taking d3, an enzyme and multivitamin (which I have stopped for now). Should I not worry about that right now and just heal myself? I appreciate any help and suggestions.

welcome to the group!!

(sympathies that you have MC and had to find us)

it is surprising what the nutritional content of the bland diet actually is...
aside from that, when one is inflammed, nutritional absorption via the gut is compromised so the focus is on reducing the inflammation and healing the gut. Once there has been good healing then ascertain if there are nutritional deficiencies

there are some good apps/program that can help with this
here is a discussion and some links to nutrient tracking..

Hi Donna,

Welcome to our Internet family. Yes, just heal yourself. I agree with Gabes. The extent of malabsorption problems while MC is active can be so variable that trying to predict how much nutrition one will get from their diet is an exercise in futility. The most practical approach seems to be as Gabes suggested, to eat a bland diet that avoids inflammatory foods, in order to minimize the recovery time. Then after we are in remission, and our digestion improves, we can address any nutritional needs that might be significant. You seem to have a good grasp of what is needed to achieve remission.

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

Hi, Tex
I thank you and Gabes for your helpful comments! I can assure you that most all I have learned about MC is from reading the forums and your book! I'm glad I finally joined!
