Is There Anything That Can't Be Done With Coconut Oil?
A year ago today, DJ posted a link to a study where coconut oil was shown (in a test tube) to have antimicrobial properties. Here's a link to that thread:

Well now researchers at Tufts University have demonstrated that coconut oil can be used to control a Candida albicans overgrowth by adding the oil to the diet. The research was done on mice, but there's no reason why it should not also be effective for humans because of the similarities in digestive system behavior. Coconut oil is known to have antifungal properties, so it was used in studies that also compared the use of beef tallow and soybean oil.
The researchers found that a diet rich in coconut oil reduced the amount of C. albicans in the gut by more than 90 % when compared with a diet rich in beef tallow. The effectiveness was even maintained when coconut oil was combined with beef tallow. As Hippocrates pointed out roughly 2,000 years ago — food is medicine. Here's a link to their News Release:
Study in mice suggests coconut oil can control overgrowth of a fungal pathogen in GI tract
So we can add "Controlling a yeast overgrowth" to the already-long list of things for which coconut oil can be used.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I can remember over the summer actress Suzanne Summer's mentioning drinking coconut smoothies. She had been diagnosed with cancer. Later after other opinions were had, she found out instead of cancer she had a yeast/mold infection. Her and her husband likely acquired it due to living in a moldy home. Coconut oil was one of the treatments she used. I was thinking also, it is probably is a good idea to have a good quality home air purifier that removes and kills mold spores.

Hi,
Do I like the taste of coconut oil? No, it's too fat.
Does it give me a taste of soap when I have to burp after ingesting it? Yes.
However, I'm convinced of the benefits of coconut oil, so I buy the ecologic, virgin version and take it the way like I take cod liver oil

Chris,
According to the article at the following link, one should start with 1 or 2 tablespoons and increase the dose if necessary, to a max of 5 tablespoons:
Coconut Oil For Candida
It's possible that you may be getting enough from cooking with it:

TexAlternatively, you can use coconut oil as a substitute for other oils in your cooking. Coconut oil is actually a really heat-stable oil, meaning that it does not break down into unhealthy trans fats when it is cooked to high temperatures.

Just to ramble a bit, I just began taking Icelandic cod liver oil the other day. I expected it to taste lip puckering horrid! Happily it isn't that bad. It tastes much better than cooked beef liver!Lilja wrote:Hi,

I've been playing with eating/taking vitamin A off and on over the last few weeks. I had read some people are not able to convert pro-vitamin A also known as plant vitamin A (beta carotene) into animal vitamin A. Thought since many mention vitamin D and vitamin A work together I would see if adding animal vitamin A to my diet would help me.
I had noticed in the past, when well to the gut, but not happy with recovery, I ate a good amount of grass fed cheese. Cheese would be one of the few animal vitamin A sources I eat, historically often. Far to early to say anything for certain, but so far so good with the gut and adding vitamin A. I find myself well with the stomach since eating foods high in animal vitamin A. But with that said, I thought the diet I am on has been healing my gut. Far to early to be excited. It could be good timing. I have a funny feeling though I'll be taking cod liver oil for awhile. I'm glad it tastes decent!
I've been doing this with rice as well. I wonder how important it is to put the oil in the hot water first? I have an Instant Pot that cooks rice very well but everything is added at once. I suppose I could heat up the water, add the oil and then the rice but am not sure if it matters???I eat rice everyday that I cook with coconut oil and then chill for 8 hours. It changes the starch to "resistant" starch and I find it easier to digest.

I'm glad you came upon this article Tex, I'm so glad to hear of this discovery.
I use Coconut oil exclusively, and I sure hope it has helped in the dept of the Candida Albicans because I was in the RED on my Iga report that were detected as abnormally high. I was wondering how to get that in check too...besides not eating Yeast or high sugar products.
