Calling ZIZZLE re water kefir question

Post by bevfromwa »

Hi, I finally got around to trying water kefir grains, (since apparently no doc around here will touch LDN!)tried to get an answer from keysands but no response yet.

I tried a small glass, maybe 1/4 c on 4/26. I'd used 2 T sugar and 1 T raw sugar, left it in for 2 days, within a few hours had a reaction--gas, bloat, pain, lumpy D. The drink tasted just like sugar water, so assume the grains hadn't consumed the sugar yet. I continued small amounts every AM until 2nd batch was ready, put 1/4 t molasses in addition to 2 T sugar and 1 T. Looked like the grains had multiplied a bit, tasted a little less sugary. I'm still having reactions, and wondered if that's normal or maybe it's not for me. Not much money invested, but was hoping I could see some positive reactions.

Thanks for any input.

I have been making water kefir but I am not too sure about it either. I worry that it is too much sugar. I usually add ginger and lemon to the second ferment. Did you give up on this Beverly?

Hi Linda, a surprise to see this old post brought to life. If you haven't done a search on this, you'll find quite a bit of info, think Zizzle posted some threads.

I did give up, keysands said it takes a while to get used to it, but after a while (sorry I can't remember how long) it was still bothering me, so did give up.

I think if you cut the sugar too much the grains won't grow.

Good luck, Beverly

I will do a search on it Beverly. At the moment I am not drinking it but am still keeping the grains alive. So really what I have now is some pet grains sitting on the cupboard eating my sugar...lol
