Magnesium deficiency and Reynaud's phenomenon

Since I've been supplementing with 600mg of magnesium glycinate the past three to four weeks, I haven't noticed much of my symptoms improving. I still have muscle tremor, muscle fasciculation (one place in particular and nowhere else) and just today noticed Reynaud's phenomenon in both my middle and index finger bilaterally. Has anyone else who has had known magnesium deficiency experience this?

it can take a while to correct deficiencies
the principle used by nutritionists/naturopaths etc is

Mild deficiency 6-10 weeks
Medium level deficiency 10-20 weeks
Severely deficient 20- 30 weeks. (Or more)

Keep in mind, to fix a deficiency your daily intake needs to be well above your daily usage.

The daily RDI for normal person for magnesium is 400mg ELEMENTAL magnesium per day
For those with health issues, medications or other factors that deplete magnesium the RDI would be about 600-700mg ELEMENTAL magnesium per day...
*medication is one of the main things to deplete magnesium..

is your 600mg mag glycninate - 600mg elemental magnesium?

I had that happen before I boosted my magnesium intake, but it faded away after I eliminated my deficiency. Are you taking any B-12 and B-9? Some of us find that despite high B-12 test results, taking methylcobalamin definitely helps. This is presumably associated with methylation issues.

How about B-6? We have to have enough B-6, but too much is claimed to cause possible paresthesia in the extremities. I thought that maybe too much B-6 was my problem (because I've been taking Metanx for over 6 years now), but after I increased my magnesium intake the paresthesia (which was mostly in the distal portion of my left arm/hand/fingers) slowly faded away. The symptoms didn't totally resolve, so I suspect that I have permanent nerve damage, but they are much better. Instead of being almost totally numb, my fingers are only half-numb now. Even so, that beats the heck out of total numbness.

I only noticed it yesterday because it was fairly prominent. I wasn't outside too long but when I got to where I was going, I noticed a marked numbness in my index and middle fingers bilaterally. They were both completely white on both sides and my ring and pinky fingers were almost completely normal. As I mentioned before I've been working up my dosage of magnesium but oddly enough, my symptoms seem to be inversely changing with my dosage increase. I'm at 600mg of magnesium daily now but I seem to just now be experiencing this reynauds phenomenon. Also, instead of general trembling in my fingers, I've got more prominent muscle twinges on my left middle and ring fingers and on my right middle finger. This never happened before my magnesium intake.

Interesting read. There can be so many reasons why, it's hard to pinpoint which one it is! I have been taking a B vitamin complex every daily for the past few weeks. I also did decrease Vitamin D from 6000 to 2000 units daily.

Product information states that it yields exactly the amount on the label. Two tablets contain 400mg of elemental magnesium. In regards to side effects, etc - since it takes so long to start improving, how do you know you're taking enough and when to start increasing?

listen to our bodies - a bit of trial and error

if after about 8 weeks you have not had any improvement then I would suggest increasing intake, using the spray/cream is fantastic way to get get high doses of Magnesium without risking D issues.

when I first started fixing my magnesium deficiency (18 months ago) i worked up to about 1200mg per day - 60-70% of this was via spray I did this for 3 months or more and then found that about 800mg per day was what i needed. As things are now, any less than 600mg per day and within a week niggly symptoms start.

Like the MC eating plan, everyone is different, our best indicator is listening to our bodies.

as I mentioned there are things that deplete /use magnesium, each person has to look at their individual risk factors.
medications, high contact with fluoride (toothpaste, water supply etc) all deplete magnesium. if there is nervous system damage from the inflammation etc then your body will need extra magnesium.
Magnesium is also key in the process of clearing heavy metals, when people start taking the mag, the body will start to clear these metals which is great, albeit it still means the muscles etc are not getting the magnesium (the best way to gauge if this applicable to you, is to hair mineral analysis testing to see if that is an influence. )

most of all give it time, like the healing process there is not quick fix or short cut.
and whilst there is no affordable accurate testing we can use for things like this, blind faith and listening to our bodies is all we have.
