Erica . . . About That Nestle's Chocolate Syrup

Post by tex »

Hi Erica,

Have you noticed any symptoms since you've been using that product? The label says "Soy Free", and your description sounded so good that I decided to try it. The first time I tried it everything seemed OK. But after that I began to wake up with a fairly severe stiff and sore back, and after the second day gas and minor D showed up. And then a few other joints developed stiffness and pain, and a few muscles began to ache.

Initially I blamed my symptoms on some bell peppers that I had decided to add to some chili to see if I could tolerate them. But the backache and D continued long after the chili should have been out of my system. So it took me several days before it dawned on me what was causing the problems. Yesterday I skipped the chocolate syrup and this morning my back was much, much better, almost back to normal. And no more gas or D.

Now I'll need to determine if I'm sensitive to chocolate, or something else in the product. I note that it's mostly corn syrup, so maybe that's the problem. I only used a small amount though, and I can tolerate a fair-size glob of blackberry jam on pancakes, so maybe the corn syrup itself is the problem, rather than too much sugar. Or maybe there's something in there that's not obvious on the label. :headscratch:

Anyway, I was just wondering if you've noticed any of these symptoms since you began using that product.

HI Tex,
Well, beyond maybe a little bit of gas perhaps I don't seem to notice it much. I use it in my coffee each morning plus a dash of cashew milk and then I might use a little of it in some cashew milk every once in a great while.

Incidentally I have been waking with a stiff shoulder, and sometimes neck...but never attributed to the nesquik :headscratch: I may to perform an experiment to see if this is contributing to any of my mild symptoms. Beyond these symptoms I've been doing really good. (with the slight exception of yesterday and thinking I could enjoy a little bit of made from scratch yellow curry pea soup here at work....Nope....12 hours later and I have had to deal with painful gas symptoms from midnight until almost noon today...I'm feeling much better now. The soup was so good too).

That's a bummer if you can't enjoy a little bit of this cocoa because it really does have very minimal ingredients in it

Hi Erica,

Sorry you had a reaction to the soup. It's a shame that the only way we can find out if we can tolerate something is by trying it.

Thanks for the feedback on the Nesquick syrup.
