23andme

Post by terre »

I've noticed a couple of posts where it was indicated that you had used "23andme DNA testing".....were you satisfied with the service?
Did it provide valuable information?
Was it worth the price?
Is it true that saliva can provide all the information?

Thanks for any input to help me make my decision.

for me, the 23andme testing and subsequent reports that i did via third party web sites etc provided great information.
the Methylation profile provided key information about what type of supplements suit me best and some of the reports provided some answers as to the why for some of my health issues.

being realistic, the outputs via the 23andme tests are only part of the puzzle per say. a fair part of the puzzle but not the full story.

Also keep in mind, these type of reports are relatively new and knowing what the results mean is not always easy. Generally only functional type doctors are using this type of information.
The results are not black and white. Processing the reports and seeing how it links in with your health journey can take a fair bit of time and research.

Long story short - it is not the be all end all, but if you have the time and brain energy to research, it can provide some great info.

if you do proceed, my word of warning is use discernment regarding the results. Dont get wrapped up in the could be/maybes of some of the reports.

Gabes, what a great reply. Just the info I needed....I will probably stay on the path I'm on and know that it might be something I'll do in the future. I don't really need to be spending the money at this time anyway (is there ever a good time?).

Thank you!

Both my son and I had the tests done and it was well worth the money. I agree with everything Gabes said. Both my son and I have quiteca few health issues and the information provided was very interesting. Much of it is over my head and I haven't had the time research further, but it is on my to-do list. I have an interest in geneology also so it was another resource in my research of my family tree.

Thanks Deb, glad to hear that you felt is was worth the price. I'm sure it will be of interest as far as geneology and help to further your understanding of those who have gone before and the issues they faced.

Thanks,

I'm also a very satisfied customer of the 23andme results. I also agree with Gabes to not get wrapped up in all the small stuff it can provide. I have been hashing mine out and comparing it to my husbands and there are a few pieces that I am glad we both know and can relate to. Nothing scary about it....just informative.

Sorry for being late to the discussion. I did 23andme years ago and couldn't be happier I did it. As Gabes said, you can download your information to many different sites and get a lot of very helpful info. So glad I did it.

Thanks for posting Sheila....I didn't know how long they had been in business. It looks like I'll do it sooner rather than later due to the positive postings.
