Magnesium
Hello all,
I can't tolerate the spray magnesium oil.....stings and leaves my skin red and inflamed (I have very sensitive skin).
I am looking into magnesium lotion. Our local vitamin shop carries a gel which says "restores vital magnesium at cellular level", but doesn't give any information about dosage. They also carry Sigform Magnesium cream 50 with B6....but it does not indicate that it is elemental and says one full pump has 50mg of magnesium and 10mg of B6. Neither of these seem to be what I need.
I was wondering if anyone has used Ancient Minerals lotion....dosage lists 1 tsp. is approx. 185mg of elemental magnesium.
I've been doing foot soaks with Epsom salt, just don't do them every day. I've been putting 1 cup into a plastic foot tub of very warm water. I read that you shouldn't use plastic tub....but that makes no sense to me.
I want to switch to the lotion because I've read the foot baths will dry out your skin.....and because the lotion would be more convenient.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Terre

Thank you for replying. I thought I might use it in the foot soak, since there are directions on the bottle listing the amount to use for that purpose.
If I am remembering right, was it in one of your posts that I read that it's best if it is "elemental" magnesium (I just made a mental note of that)? Also, how will my body tell me if I am getting enough? It seems that most of the population is probably deficient and don't even know it.
Sorry if these questions have been answered before!

The Elemental magnesium mostly applies to oral magnesium - and how the products are labelled
people think they are taking alot, but when you check the fine print they are getting less than half of what they think.
If you are getting enough magnesium you will have minimal symptoms - no leg cramps, more energy, more focus,
if you do regular sprays/lotions and then after a few months cut back and niggly symptoms return, then you know you need to keep applying the higher amount
in some cases to know how much you are getting, but for now find the form that you can use regularly is the main focus...

Terre,
The amount of magnesium listed on the magnesium lotion label may be the elemental portion, but it's somewhat irrelevant since it's not likely that all of it will soak in, anyway. I find that the ancient minerals spray never dries on my skin, and though it apparently does dry in some cases, only a fraction soaks in, because when it dries, there's always crystalline salt left on the surface of the skin. So it's really impossible to guess what anyone is actually absorbing, whether it's applied to the skin or swallowed. No one absorbs all of it. And research shows that the bigger the dose at one time, the smaller the percentage that's absorbed. IOW, as we use more, less of the additional magnesium is absorbed. That's why taking a daily dose all at one time is probably not very efficient.

Hi, Terre. I use magnesium gel that I buy online at Vitacost. I rub it on my thighs at bedtime and it has definitely helped me to sleep better. I never had any issues until a few weeks ago when it burned a little when I rubbed it on. I think that was from my thighs being a little chafed from being outdoors in the cold. I put a little coconut oil on my thighs first and that took care of the issue.

Hi Terre,
I've used the following two sprays: http://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Minerals- ... nesium+oil and http://www.amazon.com/Activation-Produc ... nesium+oil (and I don't have a preference of one over the other, but the Activation one was gentler on my skin and the Ancient Minerals is cheaper)
It also stung me, but I sprayed it on immediately after getting out of the shower and then followed up with my own regular lotion. Worked like a charm.

Hi,
I have taken Doctor's Best Chelated Magnesium for several months. I'm not sure that I absorb much of what I take (400 mg), so I've been taking magnesium oil, from Zechstein, which at least in Europe is considered the ultimate magnesium oil.
I do not spray, I unscrew the cork and fill the palm of my hand and rub it on my body where the skin is thin. The oil is quickly absorbed. I've been doing this for 6 days, and I have noticed a big difference, as compared to taking magnesium orally. More energy, (longer walks, cleaning all the flat in one sweep etc) and don't need an afternoon nap, etc.
That should point in the direction that maybe I have an absorbtion issue generally, or is the bio availability for oral magnesium very low?
Anyway, I will try magnesium oil - and not tablets - for a few weeks and evaluate the effect.
