Nail problems anyone?

Post by Grahm »

I went for a pedicure yesterday and she asked me if I had dropped something on my big toe. I said no

My nail has come separated from the nail bed at the corner. It doesn't hurt and I had no idea. I've had nail polish on and hadn't seen it. Well.. she went to the next foot and my large toe on that one looks like I have a fungus on it. This is only the 2 big toes. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm taking vit d, magnesium and metanx. My metanx was $160 when I picked it up this month  I've only been taking one a day instead of the two my prescription suggest. Maybe I should be taking two.

Thanks for any help.

Not my toe nails, but my finger nails. They have become deformed, and the thumb nails make you think of claws with bumps and a lot of deep lines. I have not shown this to anyone and asked what it is. I pretend not seeing it, and am convinced that it will disappear as time goes by. I suspect it has something to do with fungus and/or malabsorbtion of nutrients.

Connie,

This topic comes up somewhat regularly. Have you seen this old thread? It's 5 pages long.

Finger nails?

Also, I noticed that last year when my magnesium deficiency became progressively worse until it finally became so bad that I figured it out, my nails became increasingly brittle. Boosting my magnesium intake resolved that problems.

My fingernails are fine now, but my toenails are beginning to appear as though aliens are taking them over again. I reckon I need to treat 'em again.

My nails (hand and feet) are doing much better since I have kept with the supplements of bone broth, 50mg zinc, Vitd3, and my Magnesium. There was a period as I was going off gluten from May 2015 to current date, somewhere in there that my nails were wispy, now they are doing much better.

I also noticed the nail ridges and my nail were brittle, it is good to know I am not alone in this, they have begun to fade since
adding the magnesium with the D3, thank -you to the forum for pointing this out, so I hope they will disappear as I absorb more magnesium and D3 healing this complex
body. I like the tip about tapping my nails gently on the table to make them stronger.. I hope I don't annoy anyone around me, I will try and be quiet about it ha!

Aloha Girl...the zinc I use is any common brand that does not contain any of the items I react to. So watch your labels and pick whichever 50mg Zinc suits you ;-)

The bone broth (supplement) I should have clarified that it is Soup, made from scratch with bones, in my crockpot. I use Cornish Hen bones and have used Turkey bones (but have noticed I like the taste of Cornish hen much better). I consider it a supplement because it has many healing properties about it and it is one of my staple foods I eat every day.

It has taken me quite a while to get a constant healing perpetuating in my body. I have my ups and downs though, every day is different it seems like, but my energy is much better (and it has taken me 6 months or better from May 2015 to start to feel the change for the better in that dept.) I notice spikes of stress always take me back a notch or two in my progress, but I can't stop my personality so I live with my occasional bathroom trips

Another thing that is good for nails is Biotin, I used to take it but I looked at my container recently and it said made with soybean oil....that's not good for me, so I tossed it out. On the look out for one that is safe for me, if I can find it.

Thanks Gabes!
How many mcg or mg do you take a day, considering our MC situation?

Erica, I cant really help you with that - I take it for pyrolle related issues
(my supp protocol is very unique and MC is not my main focus health wise)

my nutrient bible textbook says;

RDI is 30-100ug per day
to correct deficiency you can have 0.5 - 15mg per day

factors that increase demand (therefore why you would need more)
ageing, alcohol, coffee, high fat diet, ketogenic diet,

Deficiency symptoms
skin disorders, fatigue, muscle pain - burning legs

Perfect, that helps in deciding if I should buy bulk since it is so cheap or just buy the one bottle of 100 caps...going bulk works!
Thank you!
